NBA2K Missing Players

Hello, something I've always seen as a missed opportunity is not adding players from g-league and international teams into 2K. Obviously this will mean a lot of work and resources so I don't blame them too much. Even though we can make rosters on console and pc, they won't be available forever. So I made a solution to this.
I have made a discord server which is community orientated. Everyday (or sooner depending on how many members), we will vote on what player's ratings, badges and hot zones should be. This seems tedious but we won't always start from scratch. We will also vote on whether we agree or disagree with a player's rating that someone else has already made. Once we decide, they will be put in a spreadsheet for public use. Though if this catches on, then I'll make a website for this.
This could be seen as a waste of time but it can be very useful for content creators who can do videos like "What if [insert player here] played in the NBA" or "Could a team of the best Chinese CBA players beat an NBA Team". I could also see a creator doing something like RBT's Rejected series but with NBA players instead. This will also be helpful to MyLeague players who want to spice up free agency and have a wider variety of franchise options. Creating these players also helps eliminate auto generated players from taking over (this has happened to me and it's annoying).
If you are interested in this join my discord server link or message me (karate3773). I'm looking for people who'd like to vote and give suggestions. Also if you are good with discord server stuff that would be a big help.

Groundbreaking stuff using the G-League teams in MyEras for actual D-League and International Team players lol

The players in the game get paid to be in the game. Whether they are an active NBA player or not.

Wouldn't be effective, as most fans only quantify for an individual rather than a league at large (and don't have much knowledge on how to tier them out). It does seem like your ultimate goal is engagement (website, discord), rather than broad accuracy, which would be largely achieved through data.

Re: NBA2K Missing Players

Thank you for letting me know the first part, I did not know that. I can see what you mean about having fans rate players as I thought it wouldn't be too bad having a bunch of people with different perspectives. But I'm not sure I understand what you mean about data. When you say data I assume you are talking about statistics, which is important but not the most important. Most leagues don't record stats like the NBA does so they aren't really able to be applied to every player. Not to mention there are a lot of factors in the gameplay itself. Teams could run specific plays that would give a certain position a hard time to succeed. Different rules in the league could effect stats like 3-Point efficiency and free throw efficiency. That's why I think watching the game is better than statistical data. If that's not what you meant then that's my bad, there are only 2 members so far (including me) and we both have knowledge on tiering them out I think.

Re: NBA2K Missing Players

I gotta side with Real2KInsider on this one. I think what he means by ‘individual’-focused vs. ‘league’-focused is that ratings for particular players mostly only matter in relation to each other, so a project that would (if it caught on) involve tons of people weighing in on individual players is at a structural disadvantage for achieving any sort of balance. It’s just not an approach that lends itself to keeping the big picture in view, which is essential to rating players.

Real2KInsider’s other point (re: data) is also valid. Yes, people can argue about how to interpret different types of data, but it sounds like you’re interested in building a community around this project, not just a group chat of 5 or 6 collaborators, so what you’ll get once the community gets past single digits is just people voting for players they like to be good and for players they don’t like to be bad. Kind of like some collective, fan-controlled MyTeam or something, except it’d be all focused on players that no one is really invested in (so, like, fan-operated G-League/Euro/Chinese League MyTeam).

That’s sorta the other thing… how many people really know enough about players so obscure that they are even missing in the first place? Once you get past the usual suspects (Chuck, Reggie, Sheed, etc. who have all been carefully created very well by others already), you’re mostly talking about players that most people have zero opinion about and would have to just rely purely on stats to rate anyway.

There are people who are very passionate and educated about non-NBA leagues, of course, but if the NBA2K Missing Players project is just a matter of working together to create / rate those players, then what you’re really talking about are roster / fantasy team projects for those leagues, since almost ALL of those players are missing (only exceptions being those who may have had stints in the NBA at some point). You’d probably have better luck just embarking on an international roster project (a la Shuajota’s PCBasket) or fantasy team sort of deal and making a thread and Discord server devoted to it, though maybe this is a no-go if you don’t actually have an interest in the aspects of these projects beyond pure player editing.

I still don’t think your collective approach to ratings will really work though if accuracy is the goal and if what you’re trying to build is a community large enough to warrant a public Discord server. People can team up to make effective rosters, but as I said, a team in a group chat (or a very small private Discord server) is much different than a larger community.

Re: NBA2K Missing Players

Thank you for elaborating and explaining why you think it won't work. Thank you for also giving me a different perspective on everything and going into detail. I now know the flaws of the system I was trying to run, so I think I'll transition to more of what you said. Instead of just anyone, I'll try to find people who already do this sort of thing or know what they're doing at least. Luckily the only people in the server so far are people who make rosters and players all the time. The main goal of this project is to bring players and teams into the game of 2K for everyone to use. I am a weird person who watches the ai teams go against each other to see what happens (I'm not good at playing the game lol), but I'd have thoughts like "I wonder who would win, the 2011-12 Bobcats or this year's pistons". My main goal is to have a place for people to find players where they wouldn't anywhere else (or with the same quality/accuracy). They could find players whether they play internationally, nationally, all-time or back in the past. It could also be a place where other collaborators ask for feedback as well. My idea is probably far fetched and won't catch on but I still want to try.
