A look back on Franchises of Yesterday

What's 1 or 2 stories you remember from your franchises over the years? Something that really sticks with you regardless of which season you were playing. For me it was with Oakland. Winning a ring after Miguel Tejada went nuclear in the WS against Philly. Believe it was something like 12-16 with 9 RBI and 2 HR's. It was the 1st WS I had won that I didn't simulate the majority of the games.

My complete tear down and rebuild of Oakland in '22. Completely took them all the way to the ALCS on an extremely tight budget in year 3 of the franchise and lost in 7 games. I had to go to counseling to get over it. Lol

I had Eric Sogard with an OPS well over 1.0 at the halfway mark. I manually bumped his attributes way up because I felt like his numbers earned it. I had him at like 90 overall.

This year I took the orioles to the World Series. I had intended to do this with a team that was not a contender not realizing they would end up winning the division in real life. You could make the argument that every single player in my lineup underachieved. Except one that nearly made up for them all. Anthony Santander. Who won the triple crown and American League MVP. It was absolutely ridiculous. It literally made no sense lol. All the great players I’ve had throughout the years I’ve never had a player perform like that. Don’t get me wrong the guy is a really solid player but nothing like the numbers he put up. It was awesome. The man literally carried the team offensively in the playoffs and for most of the season.

Love when that type of stuff happens. I remember MLB 20 I opened the season with the Reds and my 1st 4 AB's with Joey Votto I hit 4 HR's. I remember it clear as day. I had to go and check my setting to make sure I didn't screw them up and put the game on too easy of a difficulty or something.

Playing every pitch of every game, I won back-to-back World Series titles with the Braves on 21. Rallying from 3-1 down in the NLCS to beat the Dodgers is still the most stressful - and rewarding - time I've ever had with a video game.

So it may be strange to say my most memorable story came in MLB 18, especially since I never actually finished the season that year.

I always play with the default roster, so Ronald Acuna Jr. didn't exist in my franchise that year. That meant Lane Adams was my starting LF, at least initially.

Sometime in the first half of that season, I was looking for a left-handed bat to primarily pinch hit off the bench. The Brewers had Eric Thames on the block and he seemed like a pretty good fit for the role. His stats were nothing special, but he was left-handed, had some pop and could play 1B or corner OF.

The first few times he pinch hit for me, he homered. So I started giving him spot starts in LF. He kept raking. So I platooned him with Adams. He just kept raking, so I finally just made him the regular LF and he just kept raking. It was almost a surprise if he didn't homer in a game.

Despite spending the first couple months of the season on the bench for the Brewers, shortly after the All-Star break he led the league in homers and was the leading MVP candidate for my Braves. I've never hit as well with anybody as I did with him that year. Still a bit mad at myself I didn't finish that season to see how he turned out.

Won the world series with the Braves in year one in MLB 22, Olson, Swanson, Acuna, etc all had great years, but the back end of the lineup spark was Alex Dickerson.

Dickerson came into the 2022 season with 39 homers and 130 RBI in his career, but he exploded for a .273/.329/.500 season with 25 homers and 88 RBI as my LF/DH. His swing was just... perfect. The randomness of that one season for him always stands outs when I think about this game.

After running with the White Sox in 23, can't wait to get back to Atlanta in 24. Hope that Kelenic can capture some of that magic to help an already great lineup.

[Ghost Of The Year]

My best memories are ripping hitters a new one with Dark Knight Harvey and doing the same to pitchers with Jose Reyes, Daniel Murphy, Lucas Duda and of course Captain America himself, David Wright. Sadly tho, it feels like I blinked and Harvey was gone as suddenly as he arrived.
