Changing jersey numbers in franchise

Sorry this might be a dumb question. I started my franchise as the blackhawks and the game has Bedard as #19. I went to edit player and changed preferred number to 98. It shows it as 98 but on the roster and in game it stays 19. Am I missing something or are you not allowed to change Jersey numbers? Thanks’

Only waybi know to describe it is that on the second page of the franchise in the center column list there should be a captains and player numbers selection and that's wherr you actually change players numbers.

NHL series handles numbers the best as the edit player does preferred numbers and then you do the team numbers elsewhere.

You have to go to edit numbers/captaincy in the roster section to actually change his number. Edit players screen doesn’t actually change his number in game.
