2K24 inside scoring / shot contest system

I thought I would start a separate thread for this!

Interested to hear of people's current experiences with the inside scoring system and how the game assigns contests. My gut feeling at the moment is that it is a little bit "off", in that the game is generously assigning contests based only on vicinity and isn't really taking into account whether the defender is in a realistic position to affect a shot.

Further it appears that smaller players are able to defend inside too well, when the size disadvantage should be minimising how much they can affect the shot.

A few examples I've captured over the last couple of days (bear in mind I am in the first season with an expansion team so my roster is not great). I play with a superstar base and with shot timing turned off for lay-ups:

Players missing easy shots with the defender out of position/late to contest:

Players not being able to take advantage of a size advantage:

In terms of sliders, is it just the layup contest sliders (gather and take-off) I should be adjusting, or is there something else that would be affecting this? It really feels like they have taken away the ability to make close shots under any sort of pressure, which is not reflective of the NBA at all.

Standing layup contests are overpowered. I would understand if the defenders had a high interior defense. However, smaller guards can force misses consistently. Shouldn't be this way.

Standing dunks seems fine.

Standing lay ups are back to being useless regardless of who the defender is.

The inside scoring is atrocious players miss even dunks in the paint at a crazy rate you can have a smaller defender guarding you and your player will miss I also notice playing online guys just use their center to help defense by standing in the middle because your post player will automatically miss the shot inside shots hit the backboard extremely hard it's a glitch it was like that towards the last patch updates in 2k23 have you notice that 3's and fadeaway 3's go in more than inside shots?

I feel like I’m way more likely to make a 50% contested 3 than a 15% contested standing layup. I was using the all time 76ers earlier and Moses drop-stepped the point guard he was on and missed an “open” layup. He has 98 shot close and HOF masher, he shouldn’t be missing shots like that.

This has been an exact problem in this game since 2k17 I believe. You're not gonna make a single standing layup unless you have a huge mismatch in size.

This is no exaggeration, you're much better off shooting 3s with AD than you are trying to make a standing layup from 2 ft out.

They refuse to fix the help defense, so they fix the paint points by allowing this.

So, this still sucks massively...

The game is riddled with blown bunnies and layups because a defender holds an arm up, regardless of whether they are in a realistic position to contest. Sometimes all they need to do is hold an arm up behind the offensive player, or a couple of feet away, and it throws the player into a blown layup animation.

Bigs can't seem to finish over smalls either when you get a mismatch. I played the Sixers and Kings and managed to consistently get a switch of Vucevic onto Fox and Maxey, yet he couldn't finish over either in the post on single coverage after backing them right down under the basket. They weren't doing anything remarkable, just standing still with arms raised.

I also managed to hold Embiid to 4-15 shooting on single coverage just by virtue of having someone near him when he got low post position, causing him to blow multiple point blank shots.

I think this is as bad as it's been. I have the layup defense sliders set to 50 - do I need to set them abnormally low, or is this just how the game is? It is genuinely crap.
