This year I also do draft classes and I cover 2024 through 2035 (?), obviously focusing on the earlier draft classes. But this time I release scenarios for my draft classes to also have my sliders and roster changes implemented.
- Ratings:
81 = generational talent potential
80 = MVP potential
79, 78 = HOF potential
My draft classes mostly have around 40 to 45 70+ overall players depending on draft class depth.
- Which players/which ratings:
2024 = mock drafts
2025 - 2027 = mock drafts, rankings
2028, ... = rankings
The further the year, the more I go with rankings.
- Peak years: High rated players (top 5 - 8) often start their peak with 24 so they can reach their potential before reaching their peak, at the same time they don't need too long to become stars meaning they should (occasionally) become Allstars in their 2nd or 3rd season already. The rest of the players can enter their peak with 24 - 28.
High majority of the players' peak years end somewhere between 28 and 32. Shooters usually leave their peak years later than athletic players.
Making peak years like that allows players to have solid longevity based on their playing style and development. Furthermore, not too many players have a great longevity which would only make them more likely a future HOFer and breaking more records.
- Potentials:
2024: min. potential = overall - 3
potential = overall + 4
max. potential = overall + 11
2025: min. potential = overall - 5
potential = overall + 4
max. potential = overall + 13
2026: min. potential = overall - 7
potential = overall + 4
max. potential = overall + 15
2027: min. potential = overall - 8
potential = overall + 4
max. potential = overall + 16
Note that 2028 and beyond will have same potentials like 2027. Players, that could become the new GOAT (bold assumption -> Wembanyama last year, Jolly twins), can have a 99 max potential.
Mathematical exceptions: 69 overall (73 or 72 potential), 68 overall (71 or 70 potential), and 67 overall (69 or 68 potential).
- Boom or Bust:
Top 5 - 10 players: boom = 35 - 70
average = 25 - 40
bust = 5 - 30
Remaining players: boom = 20 - 40
average = 20 - 40
bust = 30 - 50
Distributing it more towards boom and bust gives players the ability to have more unpredictable careers and developments in simulations instead of more rigid developments, sometimes becoming bench players and sometimes (good) starters. The top 5 - 10 has more average and especially boom, because potential and max. potential can be near to each other, thus this distribution allows those high rated players to reach their potential/max. potential more easily.
- Faces/Gear: Social media (player/team/miscellaneous accounts on multiple platforms) gives me best and most current images of players to keep my faces and gears (beard, haircut, better images for replicating faces and gears) up to date.
- Height/weight: Social media (player/team/miscellaneous accounts on multiple platforms)/websites, ... give me current informations, may it be the Draft Combine, official NBA measurements or whatever. For non-adult players I have to guess their final height/weight.
- Attributes: I watch multiple highlights, read scouting reports, stats, and maybe even reactions or impressions from others for a certain player to get all attributes right. Some informations on certain attributes since College/international/G-League stats can't be applied to players like NBA stats (* Per 36).
Freethrow = percentage = overall
3pt. = 40% ~ 78 - 86
= 35% ~ 72 - 78
= 30% ~ 65 - 72
Def. Rebound* = 10 ~ 78 - 82
= 8 ~ 72 - 76
= 5 ~ 62 - 65
= 3 ~ 52 - 55
Steals/blocks* = 1.5 ~ 74 - 75
= 1 ~ 62 - 64
My approach here is to do attributes like 2K and the players should have realistic percentage and stats in simulations. What is also important for me is the gameplay. The athleticism is chosen so it replicates the player the best way possible while not being overpowered, just like every other attribute.
- Tendencies: I watch multiple highlights, read scouting reports, stats, and maybe even reactions or impressions from others for a certain player to get all tendencies right (* Attempts per 36).
3pt* = 9 ~ 85 - 90
= 6 ~ 55 - 60
In combination with the attributes I want to provide the best simulation stats and gameplay, doing tendencies like 2K while avoiding to make mistakes by making tendencies fit attributes.
- Hot zones: Rookies don't have hot zones, so everything neutral.
- Animations: Watching highlights (in best case the player takes a standing jumpshot) to get the most accurate jumpshot, starting with the base and then the release. Dunk attributes/tendencies determine the amount of dunk animations, while great dunkers get 7 - 12 dunk packages, mid dunkers get 3 - 7 since the amount of dunks also impacts the dunk frequency of a player.
- Badges:
- Top 15 player = 3 - 12
- 70 - 74 overall players = 0 - 5
- 69, 68 = 0 - 1
Note that higher rated players are more likely to get the "Work Ethic" badge, because that badge can help developing more/faster in simulations.
Also most players have "Limitless Range".
