Favorite Evil Dead Movies

With Evil Dead Rise essentially in the rear view mirror, which ones in the franchise are your favorite? Which ones are the best?

The Evil Dead (1981)
Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn (1987)
Army of Darkness (1993)
Evil Dead (2013)
Evil Dead Rise (2023)

I really liked the 2013 version not sure maybe due to the lighting the movie had.. followed by the first (Original) one.

Re: Favorite Evil Dead Movies

I really liked Evil Dead Rise, but strangely I feels it benefits from you not seeing any of the other movies, just so it doesn't feel like a retread of items too much. If they make a couple more of them in line with Rise, then I'd recommend newcomers to the franchise to just start anew with them.

There is something to be said about the camp factor of Evil Dead 2, but that's only if you can go for it. I skipped out on Army of Darkness.

Evil Dead (2013) has tons of gore which is done, and Alvarez definitely went the other direction with the franchise. Perhaps a bit too much, and I think that's where Rise gets the tone right (plus some excellent cinematography, and focusing on family).

I'll go with Rise myself, but I wouldn't say the same if I was really heavy on loving all of the ones before it and saying: "While they give us what we had and liked in the past, it has yet to breathe true new life to the franchise from a storytelling perspective."

Skipped out on Army of Darkness which is my absolute favorite in the entire franchise!!!!

Loaded with the best camp in Bruce Campbell’s history as Ash. All time classic Sam Rami Evil Dead flick!!!
