Edit Players - Potential

What attributes will increase a players potential or is there a specific attribute for potential? I have a few of my top prospects that are rated as a D in potential but I think they need to be at least a C at minimum. Thanks for any pointers or assistance.

There is a specific potential rating.

Potential does not increase/decrease often. And when it does it seems completely arbitrary. I’ve had players dominate the minors with no increase. And I’ve had players with middling seasons get a boost. I’ve also had guys go on an extended slump and see no decrease. But I’ve also had guys have a bad few weeks and lose potential. It seems completely random to be honest.

You used to get emails saying when a player was gaining potential, but now I hardly get any emails in franchise and just have to check the roster to see who went up or down

I am starting to wonder if I should even pay attention the Potential rating, and focus more on how the player actually performs during games. My goal was try to determine which prospects to focus on developing and which ones I would have the most chance of success with. I would figure a B Potential would play better than a D Potential but that probably isn't always the case

There are plenty of C or D rated players with great attributes that help your team. "A" potential, low attribute players are for placing in the low level minors for 2 or 3 seasons down the road. So really it's more about what the current attributes are, that I pay attention to.

Re: Edit Players - Potential

There is so much to potential that it would be hard to cover it all at once.

To keep it simple, think of potential as a players peak rating if they progress.

There are many factors that impact if a player reaches their potential or not, including age, performance, random luck, and other things.

For potential grades, this is the scale:

A is 90 to 99
B is 80 to 89
C is 70 to 79

The above statements are just a very basic overview.

Well put, simplified but accurate and a good place to start.

To add to this, high potential players tend to hold their peak longer than the guys that don’t. You bring in a C potential 75-80 overall guy in his 30s be prepared for a sharp decline.
