Perfect-Perfect was a bad idea

It's very misleading, especially for younger players which play nothing but DD, to get a message which sometimes basically tell you "you're doing just perfect but i don't reward you ( with a hit )". If you don't have a basic knowledge of baseball you feel frustrated most of the time: what ?! I get a perfect-perfect and i'm out ?! Yes, that's baseball. The whole idea of perfect-perfect is just counter-intuitive, because sometimes in baseball is better to be late on a ball or swing early. And it is a sport mostly about failure in which you simply can't be perfect even if you're doing everything right. You have patience, you have method, discipline, the right approach at the plate and you will be rewarded. Three times out of ten. Actually Reddit is literally flooded with players ( mostly DD players ) which crying about perfect-perfect turned to be outs while hitting this year is probably the best i ever see in The Show history. There's great hitting variety, more action on bases, more defence, HRs feel more rewarding. Just more baseball. If you love baseball as many here in OS. And still that message "perfect-perfect" feel wrong to my eyes. It is like a dopamine-slotmachine which doesn't give you a candy every time you hit a jakepot. Doesn't make sense ? I don't know, but for sure players are getting angry and frustrated. Because you can write "perfect" and "failure" in the same sentence.

Re: Perfect-Perfect was a bad idea

I dunno, I'm still more likely to get more hits by squaring one up dead solid perfect
than trying to get lucky 3 times out in 10.
kids have been mollycoddled too long anyways.
let's let 'em learn some lessons the hard way.
you might just find yourself surprised how resilient they can be afterall

Perfectly timed and squares up balls are caught every day in the MLB.

I think this is a fair observation. I mean i know the game of baseball pretty well. I know I can hit a ball perfectly, but perfectly at many various angles, which can make that perfectly hit ball go in any variety of different areas on the diamond, anywhere from a HR to an out.

But if I dont know the game that well, maybe I dont realize that perfect perfect is still not a guarantee of anything.

So maybe SDS should give a participation trophy for that “perfect perfect “ out. Or maybe they just learn by squaring up a baseball in real life.

As long as the lead designers and programmers stick to what is truly baseball and it’s nuances then heck let them cry!

Of course and it's fine. That's not the point. Because you know baseball, i know baseball, everyone here have some knowledge about baseball. But the moment you tell me "perfect !" it's the moment i expect to be rewarded some how. Not with a flyout, anyway. It is a questionable game design choice. There are ton of players playing mostly DD that are not so confident with the real baseball or simply don't approach the game like a sim and that's the reason they're asking SDS to change hitting. Not because they want more hits, but for the message itself: if it's "perfect" you must reward me with something. From a game design point of view, it's problematic to reward an action show as "perfect" with a failure. That's the reason why on Reddit you see 4-5 threads per day of players getting mad about perfect-perfect. For me, SDS should remove that message without touching anything else, but chances is they will patch hitting because DD is the most popular ( and lucrative) mode.

Re: Perfect-Perfect was a bad idea

This is why I play with pitch and swing feedback fully off. Don't have to worry about if I got a perfect perfect or not as nothing shows up on the screen.
