Interview with EA PGA devs

Some more info from devs regarding online tournaments and other matters. As SP only, I was interested to read that career golfers cannot be maxed out for skills/attributes, so we have to prioritize. Pleased to read that a lot of attention was given to commentary with some comments being very specific and rare. Some gushing remarks about authenticity (some here might disagree about club sounds, putting stance). Just PR exaggeration? We'll soon know...

Re: Interview with EA PGA devs

“We did a whole session where we hit all the different club types to record the sound effects, so again, it’s hyperrealism.”

Really
Really?

Total loss for words

This feels gaslighting to a level that’s almost inconceivable

Re: Interview with EA PGA devs

Reads like it was written by a PR team. Perhaps the ambient course sounds are realistic, but the club sounds are laughable.

Re: Interview with EA PGA devs

Not going to call anyone out, but I suspect most here can easily identify the usual suspects.

People have not seen 80% of this game yet and have already formed their opinions. They haven't played a single shot yet but will tell others it's Rory 2.0. It is evident that even after they play the game (some may not even get that far) that they will choose to find whatever they can to complain about. It's their unshakable bias to savor in finding fault while downplaying the good. There will be no surprise whatsoever that their next post will have something disparaging or snarky to say about the game. There is even lesser surprise that the usual suspects will "like" any negative post as if they are saying "amen" to the preacher while glossing over anything positive. We see you...and your opinions have lost their meaning or sting.

Others may want to tag me as an EA "apologist" but behind the scenes I have been a very tough critic where it counts in ways that hopefully we all can benefit from.

I will come out right now and say, this isn't Rory 2.0 coming. Or Rory 4.0 for that matter. While it does have some commonalities with it for obvious reasons, there are vast improvements and new ideas. I will go out on a limb and say with some minor tweaks that this game will come to be one of the most highly regarded and enjoyed titles in the history of the series....or not. Some people will not be able to enjoy the path they have chosen to go down.

You don't need to dwell on it though as there are other choices. 2K23 has tons of courses and a nice society setup whether you use TGC or not. What Golf+ lacks in visuals is hands down the most faithful sim of golf for a moderate budget. And if you got the goods then a full on golf simulator in your basement/game room is unbeatable. Of course you can always pick up your clubs and head to a real golf course if you want a 1:1 sim experience.

I hope to be around to help others ease into the game next week. More than happy to play a round online with anyone here that has an open mind and a love for the game of golf.

Re: Interview with EA PGA devs

I'm usually a pretty big backer of devs and game designers... I really get into the hype of a game launch, etc. Hype, teasers, big promises... it's a lot of fun - especially when a game pays off.

It's gonna be a fun week. I'm excited to play and enjoy the game, even if expectations have been lowered during the past month. If you're a golf fan, simply getting an Augusta experience will be special.

There's no reason to keep harping on the same faults that have been outlined. Given the early excitement of a "next gen only game", a lot of players here were dreaming big for this game. To see old-gen player models, stances, and swings is not the end-all be-all grade of the game... but those are absolutely Rory carry-overs. Anyhow - Onto Augusta!

Re: Interview with EA PGA devs

The game looks great. I just have a few problems with it so far.

Only 30 courses.
The putting stance and putting stroke.
Swing Speed.

Now I am sure they have a few camera angles so I'm guessing that won't be a problem. They are talking about being able to choose a golfer animation with faster swing speed so maybe that is any easy fix for that.

The putting is going to be key for me maybe I'm just so used to the way it looks and feels in 2k I have a problem with any other look and feel.

It does look good though. For 70 bucks what the hell right?
