Let's talk clutch rating

So we all know by now that when there are RISP the clutch attributes "takes over" is the phrase I kept hearing. Pitching clutch and the batter's clutch rating.

Press right on the d-pad when you're hitting or pitching with RISP. What you'll see is the batter's contact attribute is replaced with their clutch attribute. The pitcher's BB/9 attribute is replaced by the pitching clutch attribute.

Does this mean literally the player's contact and bb/9 attributes are equal to their clutch rating? So now my 70 contact vs lefties with 90 clutch is now 90 contact for that AB? My pitcher with 85 BB/9 with 35 clutch is now going to have trouble throwing a strike with 35 BB/9?

OR are they adding the two attributes together and using an average? It's very confusing, and Idk if it's ever been defined and explained yet. Does anyone have any idea how it actually works? I love the idea, but I'm not sure how it is implemented in the game.

Re: Let's talk clutch rating

Hitting clutch replaces the CONR/CONL w/ RISP and pitching clutch replaces the H/9 w/RISP. It's not an average of the two

I believe they said that platoon splits still play a role, but I'm not sure how. On the surface the CLT rating shows up the same regardless of the pitchers handedness, so maybe there's something under the hood that affects the PCI

When you hit right on d pad the pitching clutch shows replacing the BB/9 though. Bug or what? I noticed a more difficult time locating so I'm thinking that's how it works.

Re: Let's talk clutch rating

Yes, this is how I understood it.
Based on your example:

Hitter - 99 Clutch replaces contact and is now the "new contact"
Pitcher - 35 Clutch replaces BB/9 and is now the new "BB/9"

Re: Let's talk clutch rating

This is what Steve wrote in his article after the stream on gameplay.

A complete change was made to the clutch attribute making it more meaningful. They wanted to highlight the players that tend to make impactful hits or pitches in crucial situations. On the hitting side with runners in scoring position clutch is a direct replacement for contact. For pitchers, pitching clutch replaces hits per 9 with RISP.
