Relatively new to current gen Madden

I haven’t played Madden (more than a game or two) since the 25th year anniversary edition in 2014 on PS3. There are some features I’m not familiar with and any help would be appreciated.

How do I return to the play calling screen from the Super Sim screen. (I’m on PS5 with Madden 23.) I’ve managed to stubble across it accidentally a time or two.

The next questions relate to custom playbooks and game planning. During one of my accidental returns to the play calling screen during my Falcons ground up rebuild, I found my gameplay only had about 15 plays from the Coach Suggestions option. These plays also are the ONLY plays my team used during simulation, which explains quite a bit. I was using a custom playbook. I guess what I’m unsure of is how to rate plays. I rate a lot of plays highly because I know how to properly use them. The AI doesn’t seem to know. It’s as if they only read the primary and secondary reads and then everything falls apart. Scramblers panic, and non-scramblers either throw on the run, stand statue-like, or back up 15 yards for a sack.

How should I rate plays for the most options? Should any plays be rated over 3 stars? My playbook has around 450 available plays. Is there a way to make running a higher priority?

Finally, what is with the interception rate? Seriously, have linebackers ever had hands so sweet?

I cannot answer your play calling questions but the interception issues were fixed with patches to the satisfaction of most of the OS community here.

I'm not sure I can help you if you're playing off line, but online the gameplanning feature (plus momentum) have a *huge* effect in combination. For example, if you have Medium Passing, it makes the defenders break faster on Short passes. If they have Defend Short Passes - the combination of those two gameplans will be a big issue for you.

Then one interception swings the momentum and you're in a spiral.

Re: Relatively new to current gen Madden

Well, I still wonder about the picks. My last season my two middle linebackers tied the league lead with my corner with 8 each. My team ended up with nearly sixty interceptions. Compared to deflections, picks to deflections was a 3:1 ratio. Having even one defender with 8 interceptions per team is a rarity, let alone 3 defenders.

As for the play calling/game planning I’m actually getting it figured out. But it’s very tedious and I’m unsure it’ll work without a custom playbook. (And I never play online modes.)

A former dev said that Madden has historically had interception sliders way too high. This was to satisfy the competitive community. Drop it down to about 20.
