WWE 2K23 Purchasing Wrestlers

Sorry for likely a dumb question, but I couldn’t figure this out last year so hope to try again. I purchased vc last year thinking I could then buy wrestlers to use within the game. But never seemed to work. I typically only play single matches, none of the other game modes and after purchasing, those wrestlers never showed up for me to use.

Can someone help me understand what I need to do to purchase and use wrestlers within just single matches?

You have to either unlock them by playing or you can buy the accelerator and it unlocks everything.
