Is the Sim Engine Still Broken?

I started playing NHL 22 as part of my game pass subscription. Really enjoyed the franchise mode's depth. I've seen talk in the past about how bad the sim engine is and how your team loses no matter how good they are.

I don't want to play regular season games. I like to build my team, sim to the playoffs, and play them if I get in. It seems I'm screwed in EA 22 as no matter how good my team is, I don't make it.

So two questions: is this issue still present in NHL 23? And is there any workaround for the issue by using sliders or changing game settings?

In my experience with the game the past couple years, I never felt the sim engine was 'broken'. I had plenty of good results once my team was built up.

I have my own issues with the mode and the game. But I didn't get the impression from playing Franchise mode recently that the sim engine was 'broken'.
