All-star team player selection logic

I apologize in advance if I’ve missed it somewhere but I’m trying to find out the logic behind some of the all-star player selections in my season. Every year I see a guy make the team who is 5 or 6 players down in a certain position in voting but somehow makes the team over guys who clearly have better numbers.

This year in my season Bichette received 534 votes at SS which ranked 1st at that position and was voted in as a starter but somehow Baez who came in with 306 votes, 9 spots down from Bo at SS, gets voted in as a bench guy. His numbers aren’t even good! Baez is batting .209 with 8 hrs.

I’m really hoping someone can offer some insight because its really been confusing me for over a decade now. Lol

Thank you in advance!

Can it be because every team needs a representative? I’ve never paid much attention to it myself.

Not sure. I’ll have to go back and see if that makes any sense. Thank you for the reply.

That may be the case, needing a rep from each team, but even with that, the All-Star roster selection at times can be head scratching.

I think they value homeruns more than average. Had some guys hitting around .320 but not a lot of homeruns and they’ll go for the guy that has more homeruns but hitting .240.

I think this could be the reason. In my past two franchise seasons (MLB 21 and MLB 22) I would have about 6 or 7 guys be in first place for their position right before the All-Star game but only 3 or 4 of them would end up making the team. Somehow the game decided not to include Ohtani in the All-Star game despite leading the league in the triple crown categories and having a top-5 ERA and leading in strikeouts.

I would like to see The Show adopt a feature that is used in the NBA 2K franchise. During your season, the All-Star game rosters are announced about a week before the game and you're allowed to edit the rosters to your liking.

Think it's less of an "Average vs. HR's" thing, and more of an OPS thing, or at least that's what I've noticed (Though I haven't looked too far into it...).
