nba era question

I read that you can play up to 80 seasons in the new eras option....Does this mean if you select the Jordan era and start in 1991 and progress up to todays NBA, the rosters continually update every year to depict accurate rosters for that NBA season, IRL? In other words if you're playing in the 90s, will the Clippers have the same roster in the game that they had in real life in say 1995? Will the Nuggets have the same roster they had in 2003....etc....

Re: nba era question

I think it locks in to whatever year you start in. So if you start in 1991 everything will be accurate to 1991 as far as teams and rosters (minus the players 2K doesnt have rights to) and rules. Once 1992 comes around you can download the 1992 draft class, minus the players 2K doesnt have the rights to, and continue on. It would be a lot of work and editing players but if you user control all the teams you could accurately mimic the real life league at the time.

Re: nba era question

I think the major selling point of the NBA ERA's is the "What If's". Like what if Kobe and Shaq stayed together for example? In order for that to happen, that would mean the roster would have to veer off from what really happen IRL. So, it opens things up for rosters to look completely different after year 1. The good thing is, 2k gives us the tools to do our own thing so that we can have it as we like. We can do 30 Team control. We can edit draft classes so the the real guys from those classes are drafted into the game and we can draft them to their correct teams. There are so many possibilities.

just think for a second. this cannot work like you imagine. because you are taking part you are changing everything. how could the nuggets roster be the same if the nuggets don't have the #3 pick to select carmelo because you traded for it in the 2001/02 season?
also seasons get simulated like a normal offline league. why bother playing if the results are all predetermined anyway?

Ya it hinted at the “what if” factor. I guess you’re right. It would be insane if the accurate rosters were organically in place at the start of every season. But there’s really no way for the computer to accurately make a mid season trade that happened IRL either. Either way I’m looking forward to downloading a user created DNA of Barkley and Reggie though.

It's the butterfly effect.

Your presence alone alters the course of events.

So no, it won't play out exactly the same way. Because you are there.
