Clean, Old Fashioned Hate Pt. 2
The Yellow Jackets had the last second win in the bag. But sitting at the 1 yard line with 15 seconds left and no timeouts, they opted for the seemingly makable 17 yard FG....and it never had a chance staying to the right of the goal post as Georgia outlasts their most hated rival on Senior Night.

LEFT - BIG MAN TOUCHDOWN!!! 6'3 317LB DDT JT Muma scooped the touchdown and rumbled 65 yards.
CENTER LEFT - Nick DiMarco quietly had 87 rushing yards and two early TDs as the Yellow Jackets kept the pressure on Georgia.
CENTER RIGHT - Despite only a 4/13 line in the 1st half, DaShawn Salako found Cole Soto in the corner of the endzone with some fancy footwork to seize a 21-14 lead going into halftime.
RIGHT - On senior night it was the freshman with the game in his hands after HC Nash Savage decided to go for two and the win.
Athens, GA. - In a rivalry game that will be remembered for years, the #4 Georgia Bulldogs survived a dramatic fourth-quarter rally by #17 Georgia Tech to escape with a 43-42 victory on Senior Night in Athens. With a College Football Playoff spot hanging in the balance, freshman quarterback DaShawn Salako delivered a clutch performance in the final moments, including the game-winning two-point conversion with just over a minute remaining.
Georgia came out sluggish, punting on its first two possessions while Georgia Tech struck first with a 6-yard touchdown run from Nick DiMarco. But momentum swung sharply when Georgia linebacker Ronnie Fritz knocked the ball loose on a second-down blitz, and 317-pound defensive tackle JT Muma scooped it up and rumbled 65 yards for the tying score. The Bulldogs took their first lead early in the second quarter when Salako connected with Lonnie Banks for a short touchdown, but the Jackets responded with DiMarco’s second rushing TD after a Georgia fumble.
With the game tied at 14 late in the first half, a missed 38-yard field goal by Tech’s Max Johns opened the door for Salako to engineer a quick-strike drive. Scrambles of 17 and 16 yards, followed by a 26-yard laser to freshman Cole Soto, gave Georgia a 21-14 halftime advantage despite Salako completing just four passes in the first half.
The fireworks really ignited in the third quarter as Georgia Tech quarterback Stephen Addison lit up the Georgia defense with three touchdown passes, including a back-breaking 80-yard bomb to Jimmy Fogg. Salako and the Bulldogs answered with a 41-yard strike to Jon Amerson and later capped a ground-heavy drive with a 5-yard touchdown run of his own to knot the game at 35 heading into the fourth.
Tech then embarked on a 15-play, 7-minute drive to retake the lead, as Addison found Moses Nealy for a 7-yard score. But Georgia wasn’t finished. Salako, under immense pressure, went 5-for-6 for 83 yards on the final drive, including a critical 19-yard touchdown pass to Lonnie Banks on 3rd and 16 with just 1:06 remaining. Head coach Nash Savage, never one to shy away from risk, called for the two-point conversion—and Salako delivered again, keeping the ball on a jet sweep option and slicing into the end zone to give Georgia a 43-42 lead.
Georgia Tech refused to fold, with Addison converting a miraculous 4th-and-12 with a 40-yard dart to Keke Gwacham. A few more completions and a stunning 21-yard run by DiMarco brought the Yellow Jackets to the 1-yard line. With no timeouts and 13 seconds remaining, they chose to play it safe and lined up for a 17-yard field goal. But Johns, who had already missed from the left hash earlier in the game, pushed his second kick wide right, leaving the Jackets stunned and Georgia victorious.
“We’re in the SEC title game for sure, but a loss here makes the SEC title game a must-win,” Savage said after the game. “The guys knew what was on the line and played their hearts out.”
With the win, Georgia improves to 10-2 and now looks ahead to the SEC Championship Game against Oklahoma in two weeks time. More importantly, the thrilling victory virtually guarantees them a College Football Playoff berth, regardless of the outcome in Atlanta.
