Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Available Today - Post Your Impressions Here

its sad that they couldn't get momentum going with the game. i had tons of fun with the game and im a season player for all sports games, so i basically made a spreadsheet and did my own season on rory. I played every tournament and every round as 1 golfer from each threesome and basically played a round as each person in every tournament. and if i didnt i made sure i was them in the first round of the next tournament and tried to keep it as even as possible. I had the 10 stroke rule as my cuts for each tournament. I had a really good time with it and wished i had more golfers and courses. Watching valspar this weekend made me fire the game back up and i can se myself getting lost in the game again. I wish the AI was a little smarter with the shots they play. Seems they just always try to hit it as far as they can and dont take the course into account which can lead to some really bad holes. But overall its a fun game and with my season i had a points system and everything to determine who the best player of the year was. Really want to get going with it again and not hearing of any more releases for this game i may have to do it. Ive always dreamed of a golf pga game with a true season and true roster of even just 40 golfers where you can either play a full season as one golfer or all of them. Not to mention just a single person tournament type mode where u play a tournament as one person or the whole field. The right type of development would be awesome for just having some fun playing some golf.

The name had nothing to do wit the failure of the franchise. Tiger Woods was losing endorsements left and right. No one blinked an eye when EA dropped Tiger. It was expected.

It was also not an amicable split. I'm 100% positive that tiger will never put his name on an EA product again.

Honestly, EA should have dropped all of the real life golfers, if that money would have helped bring in a few more courses. They also should not have tried to turn the tutorial/arcade mode into something so big. It was never going top be a draw, and was only used as fodder for people to rip on it on the internet.

Seriously, they should have gone full on Links with this. Give us plenty of courses, and then continue to offer course packs to build it out. Then roll in the Country Clubs and let users create tournaments and play against each other.

The presentation was great. The gameplay was solid. The courses were beautifully rendered. But they bogged the game down with really dumb choices about how to allocate their resources.

But by the time they wasted money on Rory and the others, and then built the arcade Nightclub mode, they had pretty much screwed the pooch.

It's the still the game I want. But I don't have any fantasies that they are working on another one anymore than I think they are going to announce an MLB game at E3. Golf and MLB games are too big of risks for EA right now.

I wish TG2 was the game I wanted, but it just wasn't fun to play. Maybe their third try will be the charm.

The problem there is that you're describing something that's not EA.

They've never made a golf game, or really any sports game, that doesn't involve the official players/experience.

I agree about being bummed for sure though.

Rory was an awesome base and I was totally ready for them to build it out.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Available Today - Post Your Impressions Here

Hi all. Just got the game a couple of days ago (on sale for $6 on PSN) and I started a new career. I am approaching the first major and decided that I wanted to play all 4 rounds for majors (been using quick rounds for all other tournaments) and was wondering if you have to play all 4 rounds at once when you play all 4 out fully as I know that when you play quick rounds it automatically takes you from round to round. This might be a dumb question but I want to know before I get into my first major because I dont have all the time to play 4 straight rounds all in one sitting.

Thank you

You don't have to play all 4 rounds in one sitting.

Hi Guys,

I'm an avid user and credited beta tester for TW2004, and if you know the game you know why it got ratings over 9 at the time. It's basic, but has all the elements of a really robust golf simulator--one for avid and skilled real life golfers. Mouse True-Swing is exquisitely challenging, but doable. One of the issues that gave staying power to this game are how perfectly adjustable difficulty is. We are intrigued big time w/ the players offered now in RMPGAT, the courses look stellar, the commentary quite decent overall. If you don't mind please chime in on a few questions that I haven't been able to get a good enough sense with from reading every thread here and lots of videos on youtube. I don't have a console, so this game would be the main reason to buy a console, and then of course other titles might be worth having as well.

1. I play TW2004 w/o a putting grid. I ascertain putt line/distance by getting down low as RLG do, looking from behind the hole, watching approach shots as they hit to help determine slope, etc. How well does RMPGAT allow one to do his in putting? I would not want to use a grid to figure out putts.

2. Can player stats be called up?

3. Can one set up their own tournament, and play w/ more than one player as we could do w/ TW2004? Even if the game won't track them I can still do this on a spreadsheet, so this is not critical, but desirable. TW2004 has a season mode which keeps track of everything, whereas I think RMPGAT doesn't, correct.

4. As far as game frame rate during play, how smooth is it on Xbox 1 X? I would hope to rarely to never see video hiccoughs. If you're using Xbox 1 X, and a 4K monitor, how does it perform?

5. Can post shot ani's be deselected, or at least be kept short?

6. Most of all now: If you used TW2004 extensively as a 'serious' golf simmer, how is your experience w/ RMPGAT?

Thanks!

Ahh, and one more: I have a 3440x1440 monitor w/ an HDMI port. Will Xbox 1 X use the whole screen for RMPGAT? I can choke down the $$ for the console, but it must work w/ my Dell ultra wide screen display. Thanks!
