Re: MLB The Show 17 Twitch Stream - Franchise Mode, HDR Confirmed (Archive Available)

I gotta say, even if I would feel inclined to try the simming aspects that are featured in this I probably wouldn't anyway based on how they look and work.

The fast play stuff is just too straightforward for my liking, creating even more of a disconnect. There are only about 5 options for each pitch or play and those lack many of the nuances that make up situational baseball.

But mostly, the biggest issue I have is the lack of information on the manage screen. And I should include a screenshot here, but in the meantime...

-You have the batter and pitcher interface and then like 60% of that is just wasted space and blank screen. Why not put some more stats or attributes in there?

-The play result indicator is way too simplified. I would like more information than lined-out, struck out, single, walk, etc. How about a line showing where the ball was hit and who made the play in the field, etc? Teams track where every ball is hit now to use for their defensive setups and shifts, or even how to pitch a batter based on situations. All of this is moot in this mode, and pretty much within the game in general.

-This is a perfect place to have personal historic matchup stats on the screen. Say it is late in a game and one of your players is a bad matchup against a pitcher, tell us that!

-It seems way too hard to keep track of personal during the simming. Getting a reliever loose or knowing what a pitch count is seems to be overlooked. What about tracking where a pitcher's pitches are going for each at bat so we can see if our simmed pitcher is erratic or not having his stuff on a certain day?

I could go on. I don't know, I am glad they included this stuff because apparently people were really wanting it to be in the game. But I feel like even these are severely limited and lacking.

Often we here "If they could just combine the text simming of OOTP or Strat-o-matic with the game play of MLBtS we would have a perfect game!" That would probably be true in a lot of people's minds. But I feel that this just misses the mark pretty hard as to what should be in a quick sim mode at this point. Like everyone else seems to be saying, I feel like we are getting further away from what real baseball is all about and more about button mashing and highlight stuff that purists don't care as much for.

I guess I am just a believer that if the game of baseball can't sell itself because of what it is to begin with, then there isn't much that can be done to make someone interested in a game that is supposed to represent it.

And as it always needs to be stated, this company does a tremendous job with this game. There is no taking anything away from them, or what they have accomplished. Just what scares me is the trend of how all sports games are going these days, with more focus on Ultimate Team modes, and because they drive so much income.

SCEA had my money at the new hit physics alone for this year, but I can echo the sentiments of a few others in here already; if the priority isn't shifted back to making the actual game play better and the franchise mode work better and behave more like real life with all of the options that almost should be in, then they may lose me soon, as well.

I am 99.99% sure you can toggle critical moments on and off for all 30 teams so you can pick and choose which teams you want that for when you sim games on the schedule.

Pretty cool.

If you're controlling multiple teams and you sim you will get notified of critical situations for the current team you are on in the front end.

Yeah I'm sure you can turn them off, but I want them all!

I'm gonna play it like an MLB Tonight program. Throughout each day in my Franchise I'll sim each game (in time order) and if a Critical Situation arises, I'll play it with MLB Network Broadcast. Then play my full 9 inning game with the Mets.

So much excitement. So many opportunities for big moments. I can't wait.

Maybe it's just because of year to year saves, but I'm 95% sure I've played vs every team in rtts and I've been on the same teams for the whole time.

Whoops forgot to quote the person that mentioned this.

Hey ramone I've asked this question several times during the live streams including today but got no answer. Are there more ALLTIME MLB records this year. There's only like 12 or so right now

So if I'm on the Mets front end, then go to View Today's games and simulate the Dodgers vs. Giants game, I can't get a Critical Situation?

That is workable. Though it seems you could miss out on some throughout the season. If you go to Dodgers front end, you'd miss out on a Giants Critical Moment.

I would volunteer my services to work on franchise mode for free, startling like now.

I thought the stream started pretty fitting by them asking "for those you don't knon what franchise is" which is what basically every feature is geared towards. Outside of player quirks and top 100 prospects, SDS should feel ashamed for this years features they focused on. Also lol at all the white knights who told everybody to wait for other features that clearly weren't coming. Gameplay, presentation, and visuals still improved and will be a day 1 purchase, but the franchise gimmicks this year mimick something ea sports would do imo
