Why?

Because now I can play several seasons with the plethora of classic rosters I have accumulated over the last 3 years in addition to playing my two main franchises, every pitch, every AB etc.

This gives hardcore guys like me even more freedom and free time to play ton's of baseball and fully enjoy the game over multiple seasons.

Yeah.....there are guys like us who play every game. But I can bet your bottom dollar that the information they gather via the servers tells them most don't. There are probably far more players who play one and sim 5 or have some type of system to get themselves through multiple seasons.

Well now they have two awesome features that will not leave a lot of things to random chance. Now they can be part of the simulation process via quick manage and/or Critical Moments.

I think this is a fantastic addition to the game. And this is coming from a guy who plays all 162 without quick counts.

I am looking forward to playing a 1985 season replay in a fraction of the time, and then move on to 1988, 1990 etc etc etc. Great feature for classic roster Show players who have oodles of rosters but don't have enough time to play all of them.

This is awesome.
I agree, I am a pretty hardcore baseball fan and I still skip games during the season. Now I can have more control of the games that I skip instead of it being completely random.

Also, there NOTHING being taken away from the "full" game to accomplish this. So for those who play 162 games, and want to play 162 games, there is nothing stopping or taken away from your ability to play.....162 games!

Great post!

One thing I didn't think of initially but have since the announcement is that I can use the quick manage feature for my minor league games. That way I have more control over what happens with my minor league teams over the course of the season.

Badges have really messed up 2k series so some of us aren't as optimistic about player quirks.

They made NBA 2K very arcade like so I hope that isn't the same for MLBTS.

Ex: You get deadeye badge and start making 60% of your threes when the best players in nba only make 40%.

The boost they give can really mess up stats making them unrealistic. They can also add anothet layet to slider testing as badges can influence stuff too drastically.

This is just off of my judgement of how 2k implemented them. I have more faith in MLBTS but to say I'm not concerned a little would be a lie.

The batter walk up is OSD driven anyway, so a quick Quirk Icon wouldn't be too much on the screen, especially when it is only available for situations afforded by the quirk.

Yea but the point is if you were watching a real broadcast it wouldn't show on the OSD at all. It sounds like you will be able to pull up the quirks in a menu during the at bat.

At what point will you realize this is a "video game"?

I feel the same way. I wish that when games did these type of things, the quirks or badges or whatever the choose to call it works simply as a representation of their ratings..meaning they don't give boost but just tell you what kind of player he is (i.e. This guy has a clutch rating of 92 so he has the situational hitting quirk)

I think the way to player diferentiation is the addition of more distinctive ratings rather than the addition of boosts. But at the same time I am not a programmer and have zero clue as to whether or not that'd have adverse effects on the game.

That being said I remain optimistic about these quirks. MLB isn't 2k. I have a little more faith in them

Re: More MLB The Show 17 Franchise Mode Details, Including Player Quirks

I'm interested to see if the quirks change over time for anyone including created players. I could see where most of your team can have the same quirks or at the least similar quirks because in the end it is a human that is pressing the button.

I know from my own experience that sometimes I will pull the all often during a game and not just for one player. So if it is dynamic, I could see having several people having a quirk that they are clutch hitters (or insert whatever quirk you want) due to my own input affecting them.

If done properly it can be very cool. I also wonder if quirks is an option that can be turned off if someone prefers it that way.

Yep, it's all about balance. Basically, "quirks" can be a visual aid which show up when some stats are in a certain range. Or maybe it's a slightly stat boost or a huge one. Maybe a mix ? We don't know that. If SDS works the right way, "quirks" will be another step in the right direction to add more player personalization. If not, we're in trouble. A simulation is about stats and numbers and "quirks" can be a bless or a curse.
