I understand the want for any games devs to focus on what you think is most important. But I am guessing this mode tested really well with surveys and presentations.
I don't think anyone is saying they know how much time and resources it took to implement retro mode. But the development team has been very open about not being able to implement everything they want to every year and that decisions have to be made.

For example, in last year's stream they talked about how they did not expand on replay reviews. Someone explained that the boss came in and said, we can either do all these cool things we've wanted to do, or we can work on replays at 2nd, 3rd, home etc. The team chose to do all those other things.

Because of conversations like that, I think fans have adopted that mindset. Many also feel this is one of the smaller AAA development teams out there, furthering resource constraints.

That being said, I don't think retro mode took a lot of time and resources to implement. It seems like tweaking the gameplay and presentation to look more arcadey.

Sure, but if you are at all serious about Arcade Baseball you are not playing or buying The Show for it.

Most people will probably try it out for a little bit, acquire whatever trophies are associated with it, and move on.

Retro Mode is this years Showtime, neither of them add anything to the core sim experience, but it's something they can stick on the back of the box in big bold letters.

Again, my point goes back to those of us who play the Show for the Sim experience, but its also nice to have a "throwback" to play a game of yesteryear. Its nice to have both options in a single video game.

And how do we know its Arcade? How do we know anything about it? It has only been announced, no details have been given.

Seems your opinion comes from a perspective that you don't have any interest in playing it so therefore it shouldn't exist. While its true that is your opinion, it doesn't make any of the assumptions that you are making about the feature true, simply because they support your opinion.

Speaking of manager challenges, I do hope they expand on them a bit this year in terms of presentation. They're a huge part of the game now.

My impression during last year's live stream was that they were a lot of work for a small payoff, and that's why they didn't expand them.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Trailer, Retro Mode Details Revealed

I understand that it's probably just for the trailer, but I hope they get rid of the "Jr." on the back of his jersey.

I also wish that they would clean up follow throughs and finishes a little more. On that final shot of Griffey his foot just slides into the home run celebration animation. No weight transfer or anything that makes sense.

Oh, it's also very strange to see the Athletics version of Giambi in a Yankee uniform.
