Madden NFL 17: What's It Like To Take the Game Online?

Every year EA releases a new installment of Madden. Modes are refined and gameplay is adjusted to better fit the community’s wants and needs. However, one thing that ultimately stays the same is online play. Sure, EA adds minor enhancements, or a bigger mode like Draft Champions and Madden Ultimate Team, but the infrastructure remains largely intact.

So here are my online impressions for Madden 17 one week later.

I wish they would develop a filter to prevent the same teams playing each other in ranked games. That gets annoying.

I agree, this is easily the best football game period since 2k5. EA has really done a number turning the franchise around. Certainly, it has its haters and it is always going to have people who hate it especially as the game becomes more and more of a simulation with each passing year. You are rewarded for understanding the intricacies of football, something I've had to accept as I got by for many years without worrying about many of the nuances on defense like having your line crash a certain direction or know what the different zones mean and how the players playing those zones play.

This is also my first year diving into MUT. I've always thought it was a waste of time but then I found out about the Legendary rewards and I'm so in! I have to say I've been wrong wrong wrong this whole time about MUT. An added bonus, if you play smart and can play often then someone who spends real $ in MUT doesn't really have an advantage or at least it is severely reduced though you do have to put work into things that give you coins and hunting for deals on the auction house.

Overall, MUT is a great mode especially with how its tied into Draft Champions. I've always gotten sick of Madden around November/December because Head 2 Head online and franchises would eventually become a drag but I think this might be the year I play Madden from release to the next release thanks to MUT...it also helps that I bought it digitally so I'm stuck with it

I do like playing the unranked Draft Champions mode (ranked requires those pesky tickets).

I've tried getting into MUT last year, but the online matchmaking system described in the above article was atrocious. I refuse to spend real money on it so it took me forever to get to the 70OVR level. I'd win a few games as a 70 OVR team and suddenly get matched up against 85+ OVR teams.

The truth is, there isn't much advantage to spending money on packs. Because you're guaranteed nothing of significance, you can easily spend a couple hundred dollars and not pull a single elite, let alone a legend. As someone whose been into MUT for 3 years now, what I've picked up along the way, the best Ultimate Team players combine grinding solos and occasionally spending money to supplement your roster. Last year, I spent about $50-$60 over the entire season. Never on standard Pro Packs. Finished with a 97 rated team. MUT's at the point now that you can build a great team without spending a dime. Since Madden 16, barriers have been removed for "Team No Money Spent". Prior, you'd always eventually hit a wall, not paying. Because the solo challenges and opportunity for packs were scarce. Total opposite now. Between MUT Rewards and Daily objective rewards, anyone dedicated can put together a nice team. I already have an 82 rated MUT team in M17 with a couple elites. $0 spent. Don't intend to even consider spending until maybe next year.

Re: Madden NFL 17: What's It Like To Take the Game Online?

Just want to add my 2 cents....I've played Madden since its birth and I to I always favored 2k, I was an adapter of the breakfast and in my opinion was ahead of Its time speaking for sports gaming, both nfl 2k and nab 2k....anyways I agree this is the greatest version of Madden conceived and we are getting there....but prior to this year I spent zero time online because of cheese or "Madden" ball but I was so intrigued by draft champions....because of the chess like strategy now involved with what basically amounts to rock, paper, scissors...and matchups, I am having such a great time playing online finally. Instead of me stopping a fourth and long in a 0-0 game in their own end once very ten tries it's flipped to 9 out of ten times. Now when I guess right on what the opponent is about to do and counter it, it is gratifying. I've taken my losses and It was clearly because I was outsmarted or untimely turnovers and not because of the inability of the game program to effectively prevent a four verts or fullback dive I already know is coming.....I stand up and applaud this team....looking forward to what's in store down the line but until then I'll be playing offline and online all year long til the next release, and that is high praise in and of itself.
