Re: PES 2017 Demo Available on Xbox One, PS4, PS3 - Post Your Impressions

good stuff nuno.

what gets me with the skill stuff in all games, and even if this does not happen you can't convince me, is I feel like the moves are co-dependent.

What I mean is, if you go into some sort of practice mode or fifa 1v1 since they removed practice (smh) you can do the tricks all alone. You think you are actually getting better at them! You are sort of, but here is where what gets me kicks in.

Once you get into the match now the skill move animation seems affected by the CPU defender. It becomes more of a push and pull.

I know I see skillers on youtube doing all sorts of crazy stuff so I see it can be done.

But when I get in a match and feel like I pulled off a move I am looking at the screen and see it delayed or changed based on what the defender is doing. I don't call this scripting. I just think it's the built in collision detection taking over and saying ok the attacker and defender are too close so in order to display this dribble animation we either have to null the user inputs and make the trick not happen or we need to give the trick but change where it occurs.

One plus in PES is that auto skill, luckily it does seem to choose what is needed situation-ally.

My fave move in PES is to take the ball towards either sideline, chest towards the line, then use a small LS nudge towards your goal line then quickly back towards the CPU goal line and RT.

It's just a simple shoulder feint and go, looks excellent in PES this year.

Side note : A head scratcher in fifa is this, ever see the CPU do any of the skill moves the user has? Me either. At least the CPU in PES pulls off and tries the same skill moves you do. Haven't seen a CPU roulette yet though.

Put the controls to auto-feint. This doesnīt mean that your player will dribble automatticaly, it just makes it easier for you to dribble like this:

Move the Right Stick in any direction. This will "pre-load" the dribble. Then, move the Left Stick to the direction (and this is the crucial part) where you want the dribble to end! Your player will perform a dribble, and no matter what dribble he performs, it will ALWAYS end in the direction you choose with the Left Stick.

Hope that helps!

About the video, i think everyone agrees that there is a difference. What others (and i) disagree is that those changes are something Konamy did stealthily, and are probably something else already in the game.
Thanks nuno for your help!

Loved your street fighter metaphor! I have never been a "skiller" with fifa and I am not sure I will manage to become one with pes. I have always felt like a good change in speed or a direction change with the right tempo were lethal enough in fifa either against the cpu or a user. If you look at the almighty messi he rarely tries skills, his dribbling is limpidly made of small touches in the good tempo.

Somehow I have hard time protecting properly the ball with my players body (I should use R2 or R1 right) and nailing these changes of direction in the right tempo. What trigger do you use if you want to dribble pass an opponent? R2 then R1 acceleration? Also if find the speed explosion (with double R1) harder than the double pull with R3 in fifa.

I guess it is matter of time before I start to become a bit comfortable with it .

Re: PES 2017 Demo Available on Xbox One, PS4, PS3 - Post Your Impressions

Has the following been brought up:

(A) How do I change the setting so the CPU doesn't keep sprinting towards my player to steal the ball all the time.

(B)The passing unfortunately is on point for both the user and cpu (pin point accuracy), how do we change it so both the user and cpu doesn't have pin point accuracy with all passes. Note: Just changing it for the user doesn't help because the cpu will still have pinpoint accuracy (and that just looks awkward). How do we change the pass mechanic for both CPU and user so it looks like all passes are "through ball passes" because that would look more realistic.

But those tuner updates where downloaded in-game, we got a clear warning that there was a new tuner update and gave us the option to download it (for online games it wasnīt optional of course). So again, it was a download, it was a file, it warned us and asked for permission. Crystal clear stuff there.

There is no such thing in this PES demo.

Couldnīt agree more, to me itīs things like form, emotion, on/off tactics, etc... the "randomness"! Itīs the thing that will give this game longevity.
Konami probably did a stealth tuner w/o notifying the user that their gameplay file would be amended. Makes sense.

You need to switch pass support off to knock cpu pass percentages down.

Re: PES 2017 Demo Available on Xbox One, PS4, PS3 - Post Your Impressions

I downloaded the PS4 demo and played a few 10 minute half games with it. The graphics on the PS4 are good. I am less concerned about the players faces, but I do like how the stadiums look including the fans in the stands. Now in the couple of games I have played with the demo, I have yet to see a goal scored. The CPU opponent has come closer to scoring than I have. But my better days as a joystick jockey are behind me. I am good enough to be able to pass the ball to get it up the field close to the opponents net. But clearly not good enough to generate any real scoring threats. Which leads me to my question about the game.

I have two PS4 controllers but I cannot get the game to setup a CPU vs CPU match. The 2nd controller can be moved into the middle CPU slot. But the game won't let me do the same for primary controller. Is there some hidden way to get CPU vs CPU games working? Or does PES simply not support this sort of game play? I hear all these stories about how superior PES game play is over FIFA and how great the 2017 goalies are supposed to be. But I always like to remove the weak link (that would be me the human) while testing how a game's AI plays. But how can I test the PES 2017 AI when the game does not appear to support CPU vs CPU games? FIFA 16 supports the CPU vs CPU feature and overall I'd say FIFA is a pretty good game. But it does have it's warts and I wouldn't be here looking for an alternative if FIFA did what I wished it could do.

Yes, in game is totally different because of the defender, but like you said, this auto-feint seems to have that in consideration.

Yeah, games are very in depth now, itīs a goo thing of course, but i just donīt have the will to learn all the tricks in NBA, NHL, PES, FIFA... etc, itīs just too much.

About protecting the ball, if i am all alone on offense without a few teammates around i receive the ball and use the R1 (shielding) and wait for the teammates to catch up. Of course, you canīt use it for a long time and you have to have an advantage in strength relative to the defender.

The R2, i use it if i want to quickly face the goal, or if im feeling i have o good chance on the one-on-one with the defender. I press R2 and then i either do an auto-feint, or, i press R1 in the exact moment the defender decides to strip me off the ball. Of course, most of the times i just loose the ball, but when i manage to go through, it feels great!

It's in the full game.

I will play a game of 16 tonight and record how the watching/coach mode works.

I think you can do it everywhere, myclub, exhibition, master league.

Closest you can do in the demo is go to role control I think it's called. From the controller screen hit RB/R1 and you will see it switch at the bottom, you can then be 1 player on the pitch.

Here is manager mode in Myclub, same for Master League I think, I did not have a save file to load up to test it.

And here is coach mode in an exhibition match. For some reason you can't use Triangle/Y to access that secondary match window. No clue why.
