I had posted earlier about the new addition of keeping your team together. It really is awesome. Usually drops are hit or miss, usually miss. I had one the other night, 6 guys, all chatting it up having fun. No bull. Then the game ended, at that point in the past it was back to the coin toss or if you'll get a good game or not.

I mentioned we could stick together. We did for 3 more games. It was an absolute blast. Great new feature.

Maybe I'm not going to the correct menu and choices...
I am not an EASHL guy !
I prefer to play HUT or real NHL teams !
Can't figure out how to get the menu section to select either of these 2 options !
Please help !

Re: NHL 17 Beta Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here!

This is kind of an off-centre impression as this is coming from my 9YO sons perspective.
He loves hockey so when he fired up the PS4 and saw that the NHL17 demo had finished downloading he asked if he could play.
I told him “Go for it” and figured he’d get bored after 10s. Neither he, nor my 13YO son have shown any interest in playing sports games despite them playing hockey, baseball and basketball.

I get him setup with his HUT team and go back upstairs to watch my 3YO daughter.
After a few minutes, I hear him howling, yelling and cheering.
I go downstairs to see what’s going on and he’s having a blast scoring, fighting and hammering guys all over the ice.

I have to say, while I wouldn’t play with all the indicators on, I was happy they existed for my son. He didn't mind them at all, and they helped him play the game properly by utilizing lead passes, distributing to the point and even staying offside.

He asked what this HUT-mode was all about and I did my best to fill in the blanks. He loved the concept of collecting cards and getting special packs and boosts.
So after his turn on the PS4 was over, he ran to his room and grabbed his collection of hockey cards and starting pouring over them.

I really hope that the arena customization is part of HUT as well. I think he would really like to design his own rink.

He’s dying to play the game again tonight and is very excited that I have it pre-ordered.
I had to laugh at him though; he gets in a fight and is pounding away before the CPU starts tying him up and making him miss, and eventually defeating him.
My son probably outlanded him 2:1, so when he lost he asked, incredulously “Why didn’t he die?!?!”. I burst out laughing and explained how the fighting system works.
I then also had to explain that nobody ‘dies’ because this isn’t Halo, hahaha.

I haven’t had a chance to play it myself, but I like how there are mechanics in this game which allow a little kid to enjoy it.
He found the controls pretty easy to manipulate (he refused to use the ’94 controls) and with all the indicators, could play a pretty realistic form of hockey.
He especially liked the offside indicator. If he wanted to fight someone, he’d just initiate an offside call and fire the puck on net, haha.

One thing I did notice or at least I think I noticed was when I first loaded up the other day I got a tuner update that I had to accept and it was version 1.00 even though the original version was 1.00. I wonder if the overwriting tuners again or possibly not supplying them at all since we'll have all the sliders at hand

creation mode
i messed around with some of the options, and man this mode is deep. but i wonder if it's too deep. i spent 45 minutes creating my team, which is great, absolutely but i wonder when the time comes will i give it as much attention? i kind of wish they included ALL the logos in the game in addition to the NHL ones.

gameplay
personally, i feel like not too much has changed. the stick lift and poke check are less OP but there are a lot of similar frustrations carried over from 16.

i played one game online, was down 3-2, scored with 50 seconds left. next faceoff, scored again, up 4-3. the guy i played against scored with 12 seconds left, and 1.7 seconds left to win the game 5-4. i dont mind losing - but i hate losing to 4 goals scored the exact same way. bummer.
