Ehhhhhhh, I dunno man. It's a very good, competent, high-quality title. But buying a PS4 for it? That's a stretch.

Since your not a big baseball fan, probably not. Unless you just have money to burn.
Show 16 on ps3 should suffice, if you still have the ps3 and baseball itch to scratch.

That's unfortunate. Thanks for the replies. Why is this years game not living up to the usual "The Show" hype?

Last year I would have said yes in a heartbeat.

This year I'd say no, unfortunately.

Re: MLB The Show 16 Has Officially Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here

These are my own thoughts and are based upon playing every RTTS game (including spring training) for nearly 4 seasons with my D'backs starting 3B man. Settings set to do every bat from 0-0, some fielding opportunities and some baserunning opportunities. I've played the same position in previous games using the same settings (subject to availability in earlier versions)

I've been hammering RTTS over the last month and have to say I think this is the worst version I've played - I've been playing since the 2011 version. Here are my main issues:

1. Virtually any ball that's popped up behind the plate goes directly upwards allowing the catcher to shuffle a few steps to the side and catch the ball. I don't recall any hitting the netting although a few have dropped where the catcher hasn't quite reached to make the catch. Very few foul balls have gone over the net and I've not seen any go over the dugouts. Ball physics in this situation is extremely limited.

2. Bunting I - the game won't let me get closer to home plate than the third base bag unless the player is guaranteed to bunt (when you get placed very close - see below). As a result Matt Adams has bunted on me and reached first base along with several other players who don't have much speed. The pitcher occasionally gets to the ball but too late and the catcher never gets the ball to make a throw. Bunting in this situation is very low risk for the hitter who will make first the vast majority of the time.

3. Bunting II - In situations where the players sets up to bunt my player is placed a few metres from the hitter ready to receive the ball and throw him out. These are guaranteed outs

4. Bunting III - Cespedes bunting with 2 on and 2 out when my 3B man in playing really shallow since the game knows he's bunting - really? Guaranteed out

5. I hit a ground ball straight at the SS and sometimes can make 1B and get the infield hit as my speed is now pretty high. If the ball a couple of metres to his side then he dives, rolls over and throws from the ground and I'm out by a few steps - if I managed the team i'd make all my infielders sit on the floor!

6. I've had games where the situation is as follows (or similar) - top of the 1st, no outs, 1-0 up, my player batting second gets a double and the third hitter is 1-1 and the pitch count is 2 - the starting pitcher hasn't been pulled.

7. I got a double off Carter Capps in the 8th - his pitch count was over 70 according to the screen.

8. The last and probably the thing that frustrates me the most with this game and I appreciate this is not limited to this version. I get that players have slumps but it feels like the game handles them by (invisibly) throttling your stats so your 90 hit power and contact get drastically reduced for several games. Nothing I do has any effect, timing and contact are still good but due to the throttling my power 3B goes through stretches where all he can get is singles. If I do something wrong (chase a ball out of the zone or mistime a swing) by all means punish me but (seemingly) invisibly reducing my stats is frustrating.

Edit - oops - that looks like a lot of text when posted - sorry

Edit 2 - forgot to mention broken bats - wow does this game like broken bats

For me the game is living up to the usual "The Show" hype as you call it. In fact, for me its the best of the series hands down.

As for your original question, I would say its definitely worth the purchase of a PS4, if you're going to play other games on the PS4. Not that the Show isn't good, but I personally don't feel that any game is worth the price of a console all by itself.

Re: MLB The Show 16 Has Officially Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here

I had a post ready to go in a thread that just got locked up LOL.

I need to post this aspect of the game that to me.....really screams PS4/next gen and how much more The Show has improved since PS3 and even since it's move to PS4.

The running game.

Ironically I felt 16 has taken the biggest leap since 12. I felt 12 was a giant leap in the right direction in terms of realistic ball physics and so far 16 is the pinnacle of that direction. I played the crap out of MLB 12.

12 was my fav last gen. But 16 is leaps and bounds ahead of that game in just about every facet. Gameplay, animations, lighting, and yes presentation....way better than 12.

I know the Play by play and color get's slammed all the time. But it's not bad at all, and in fact this year is so much better than ever before. I felt 15 actually took a step back with a lot of overly repeated lines galore and too much dead air. While you still will get repeated stuff (your playing 162 games for crying out loud) it still is much better than it ever has been. The dynamic commentary has taken some nice steps forward with many excellent references to how your team and players are performing during the season, that week, that series, that month....it is solid.

Presentation has been more streamlined...true. But it started on 12. 11 was the last "old school" slow paced Show title. Things started changing in the "Tru Broadcast" direction. I think presentation this year is far better than 14 and 15 on PS4 save for not seeing every foul ball play out and the throw back to the pitcher being cut off. But I already have become used to that from 15. They drastically cut down the HR camera (thank you for listening once again SCEA SD) and we see that gorgeous pulled back view of no doubters a ton more than on 15.

Ball parks are rendered so amazingly....seriously the lighting and the change from dusk to night is breathtaking. Playing an 8pm game at Wrigley is amazing. I am blown away by the lighting.

Gameplay? Not close....no way. Pitching, batting, ball spins, fielding...all of it far better now. The running game is so much better now as well. The cat and mouse game between the CPU and yourself this year has taken a big leap. I am surprised I do not see it being mentioned more often. Stealing bases is much more strategy/ratings based and lot's of factors are finally coming into play with that aspect. Pitcher, catcher, counts, ratings...slide step..no slide step, slow or fast delivery. The CPU varies their looks too!!!! Seriously huge improvement.

The fact we have different running styles also add's to the realism and immersion in the game.

Re: MLB The Show 16 Has Officially Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here

The play-by-play is worse this year, IMHO, just because it's wrong a fair amount of the time. Aybar came up for me in one game and they ripped him for being in the lineup because he only had two hits in his last 10 games. That would be fine, except he was coming off a four-hit game. That's happened a lot.

The best one though is when I come up down by two runs in the ninth and they say something like "it's getting late, they really need at least a run this inning."

That said, I LOVE everything else about this game. I've had a lot of fun with this series over the years, but 16 has been far and away my favorite. Gameplay has been top notch for me.
