But you're right... it's a wrap.

He actually gave an explanation why he left. It's funny, he first left 2K to EA for more money. EA didn't like the direction he was taking the game (much more sim oriented) so he left and went back to 2K.

Live could be a basketball powerhouse right now if they just loosened the reigns on that man.

For all you people that expect to be wowed by NBA live because of the delay should halt your expectations. The reason why is because the NBA live development team is split working on mobile and console simultaneously. We have all seen this act before with EA when they split NHL 15 developers to work on UFC 1 which made NHL 15 barebones. EA is a smart company hiring more NBA live developers to work on both mobile and console isn't a smart investment when you can gamble and delay by splitting your development team to work on both projects.

I don't think I've ever read this interview in full before now, but man is this question and answer telling, and this was 6 years ago:

Every year NBA Live seems to take a new direction, only to shift gears again the next year when it’s not lauded a complete success. Are there too many camps pulling the game in different directions?

MW: Yeah I definitely think that’s the case. When I went there I kind of went there with a three-year vision to do something. We finished NBA Live 10 and after talking over with management what they wanted to do, I think that they feel like they need to do something different all the time – I think they are trying to reinvent the wheel sometimes. Unfortunately, they haven’t had the chance to gain any traction that way and build on top of the many things that are substantial.
You can't build anything like this.

For better or worse, wasn't there a fair level of continuity among NBA Live 14, 15 and 16? Those three games seemed to follow a fairly stable trajectory of development.

Ironically, You gave examples of two EA sports game franchises that may have made the biggest turn around in video game sports in 1 year with their latest releases. If that is what is is store for NBA Live series, then yes, we will be WOW'd.

IMO it appears they are going forward with their development, using and common code across multiple platforms, will not delay the development in the manner many are saying. It mainly adds another test cycle for development, and more platforms to verify and confirm functionality if the code is common, and also allows for fixes to be common which actually increases development time for better content in the long run. Maybe they are attempting the first true cross platform sports game simulation(sorry Rocket League). THAT would definitely be groundbreaking.

What does delay development is the introduction of new ideas and reinventing the wheel mid cycle as 24th posted above, except they have not re-invented anything in 3 years, so something does need to be reinvented to regain fans trust and $$.

The part of this whole thing that has people miffed is the lack of information and updates in print, that they feel they should have the right to daily, which leads to most if not all the criticism on these forums, since people just start going with their gut. at this point not even the Elite fiasco is relevant as the sports gaming landscape has changed since then. I will say, that since 14, they have done EXACTLY as they have said, no smoke or mirrors, and stuck to their plan.

I always looked at NBA Live 16 as the end of their "3 year cycle" and fully expected something new for the upcoming newer hardware and platforms as I've stated previously, and a quick search around the net, on various tech updates will vaguely confirm it, unlike all the "cancel" talk, which cannot be confirmed, and is not even what they have released to us. I don't think they'd make that mistake twice. I hope not! Keep Hope Alive! til next week.....

The Madden mobile team is working on mobile. I'm sure some Live devs pitch in but madden mobile are the main devs.

Re: What's to Become of NBA Live?

Yes I believe this is the right moment for NBA live to reinvent the wheel whether it be a new engine, a cool new feature, etc. The trajectory NBA live was on through 14,15,16 wasn't viable because they were so far behind the competition, the only way to remain stable is to come out with something fresh and exciting to attract gamers. This is why I propose ideas like mo-capping all animations and starting from scratch because animations equals gameplay and if animations isn't right it kills the immersion. Then after that they can add features and new modes to the game like a coach mode or a referee mode to become a true alternate to 2k.

Then they could introduce a weekly wrap up show 2k doesn't have this yet. Or instead of a Rising Star created player you could use a current player or legend instead. Little things like Dynamic Hairstyles will have us gamers buzzing and 2k fans jealous. There so many cool refreshing cool and new innovative ideas but for whatever reason NBA live executives continue to not listen to the community. How are you supposed to compete with somebody by copying their formula Mycareer/Rising Star, Mypark/Pro am. The people have spoken with their wallets we want a good basketball SIM alternative and not a rehashed 2k version.
