Re: Madden NFL 17 Releases on August 23, Cover Athlete & Gameplay Trailer on May 12

Well since most cover guys usually represented the aspect of the gameplay/feature to be focused, maybe it's "John Madden", signifying going back to the basics of X's & O's.

Well at least that's what I would do.

Just curious what is the "focused" theme to be marketed, more so than the individual that graces the cover.

I'd agree it's not atrocious and there are certain plays where things look really good. It really suffers in the short yardage situations, and part of that is the RB contextual stuff, but when things get congested is where it gets really bad IMO. If they added a bunch of animations like they did for WR/DB with lineman on both sides falling down, cut blocks and more steering/pushing/hand fighting with tackles while engaged vs. win/loss outcomes I think that could be a really big upgrade but it's also a hard thing to market to the casual player and reminds me of the year they tried to get us to be fullbacks.

i honestly don't get why people are so interested in the cover, i thought a lot of players were downloading the game so the cover becomes useless

Miller is no longer in the league's substance abuse program. So he's no risk whatsoever.

Tradition, plus, it's a marketing ploy that still works. Also, I don't download digitally because I'm in the BB gamer's club and save money on the games.

Duece, yeah, that's all I meant by my post that the line play is ok, but not atrocious. Heck, last night I reviewed half of all the running and passing plays and I saw the OL go to the second level on running plays. I didn't know Rocky was referring to more DL play. I agree that part has been simplistic, but that sounds like a big project to undertake replacing the old code.

You bring up cut blocks, I saw Corey Lindsley cut block one of the defensive tackles and flipped him in the air.

Of the plays I reviewed last night, I didn't see any OL standing around, in fact, I saw a lot of OL trying to go to the OL or CB blitzing a open gap. I didn't see any atrocious line play in the reviews.

For me it's not so much the cover as it is how the cover ties into what gameplay elements they worked on, they usually tie them together which is why I could see Miller, Watt, or Kuechly, as their choice before a QB, as D line play and run D is a glaring issue. Unless there's a new passing system then it would be Cam or Peyton.
