Man, I'd buy this in a heartbeat if I didn't have to haul out my PS3 from hiding. If only the PS4 was backwards compatible.

Re: Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 is Coming to the PS3 and Vita This Spring

I must say that MLB the Show 16 PS4 and NBA2k16 has been dethrowned by this game (2015). My PS3 is currently getting full time duties simply because of Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 despite my PS4 screaming in my face. Jikkyou 2016 will probably save my PS4 from collecting dust.

Received this game about 1 week ago and I simply can't get enough. Very addicting. Amazing on the field gameplay. Firing up MLB the Show no longer gives me the rush. I do it just to see my A's uniform in motion every now and then. The only thing that's missing is the lack of check swings in Pro Yakyuu Spirits.

Xbox baseball fans are missing out on one of the best baseball games ever. Not localizing this game is a travesty. Konami and Sony or Microsoft and NPB needs to figure out a way to bring this stateside, or coat the engine with Major League Baseball.

Does anyone have any tips on hitting the ball to the outfield? 90 - 95% of my hits are infield hits using the X or O button even if I square up the ball. Does the white part of the cursor have to be the area that hits the ball? Can the other parts of the bat (the tip of head of the barrel, etc.) be used. In other words, is the "sweet" spot of the bat the only place that can legitimately make contact with the ball? "Power" swing works, but then the batting cursor shrinks dramatically in size. I have been conditioned by MLB the Show to only use the "X" button because I can still hit singles, doubles, triples, and homerun with just "X" button. I never use the power swing in MLB the Show.

You can make contact with any part of the cursor and even a bit outside of it but that would be very weak contact. If you are having trouble hitting to the outfield with X try using a lock-on 1-5, with higher making good contact easier.
It is virtually impossible to hit a hr. with the contact swing, you need power swing for that. Also with two strikes power swing is ok to use with certain big hitters using O (opposite field) button, as contact is easier than using power swing with X.

By the way Konami purposely left out check swings, that would make cursor hitting to easy.

I'm sure you've checked out spiritstranslation but here is a link to some tips.

The different face button swing types in PYS aren't power swing and contact swing like they are in The Show.

They are pull swing (X button) and opposite field swing (O button).

Each button has different optimal timing (early for pulls, late for oppos).

I suggest going into the hitting practice mode to get a feel for the optimal timing in each swing.

There are also special abilities that some players have which will boost their ability to hit with one particular swing type:

http://www.spiritstranslation.com/sp...s/hitters.html

As in real life, it is generally easier to hit for power when you are pulling the ball. But you can add extra power to either swing type by tapping the right trigger and shrinking your cursor down to just a tiny circle. Doing that won't guarantee fly balls -- that is still mostly dependent on the physics of how your cursor lines up with the ball at the point of contact, plus the hitter's trajectory rating. But it will guarantee that you hit the ball a bit harder. If you're using someone with a low trajectory rating, you will probably get a lot of line drives into the outfield, even if you've switched your cursor to the tiny power circle.

Yes, X and O are swing types, R1 I believe it is toggles between power swing and normal swing.

Jyoung is right, if you need a sac fly then bring in a bench player with a high trajectory rating. The pull + contact swing will get you line drives & gap shots but rarely home runs (unless maybe you nut one down the line or switch to light ball.)

Also, PYS pitchers generally follow MLB coaches advice of throwing the ball low. If you bite then you'll always put a grounder to the infield. Just like IRL you have to look for your pitch up in the zone. In fact you get more power the less you jerk the stick - I get best results focusing on a zone and looking for a certain pitch. The downside to that is when you get 2 strikes against you.

Also make sure you have the "CPU Pitch Fade" setting to OFF. They will paint corners all day long, in order to work counts & get walks you have to have that setting OFF.

Here's a video I created that shows the effect of hitting the ball on & off the sweet spot.
