Ditto. I'll probably try both modes out at some point, but just as a change of pace.

Once again, sounds cool but nothing that will last long for me. Maybe a casual drive by, but not my cup of tea. At this point into the future, anything short of an exspansion mode and I'm just gonna be locked into franchise mode.

Single player online meaning you play others online but you you can't have two players on one team it's only you vs the other guy

Honestly this is basically what I expected draft champions was a fun way to use cards you couldn't afford or test them out I'm madden before buying so I'm excited for it in the show.

Conquest seems cool hopefully there is a reward for beating it like a flashback or something.

This mode is becoming everything I hoped for especially since 2ks my team sucked this year this gives me a great alternative to MUT

Re: Battle Royal is draft Champs

I think all these "franchise-got-shafted-because-all-resources-are-put-into-cash-grab-modes-like-DD" accusations are misguided...

People quickly forget how unpopular DD (or online in general) was just a couple years ago... people rarely talked about the mode, and aside from a small group of enthusiasts (who mostly frequented in The Show Nation forum, not OS), the mode wasn't receiving as much a traction as the developers hoped. I occasionally checked how many games were being played in DD, it was quite shocking to see the activity level was usually as low as that of online leagues. (In MLB 15, it consistently far outnumbered both online-rated and online leagues.)

I think that the fact that the devs still kept trying to make DD work, and finally made it a smashing success last year, actually tells us that their resource isn't only on where the money is. Now with the success, they may have generated enough extra to subsidize other areas of game that could use more attention even...

I, too, find it kind of sad that what it took to bring DD to a great success was some sort of card-game type mechanism that often employed by mobile gaming companies in it for cash grabbing (instead of continuing to pursue the direction of rather cumbersome yet quite creative mode it used to be), but people responded strongly and it is a good thing overall. DD is not really meant for sim-style audience anyways, and I think it is a great thing that there is an additional way of enjoying the game.

Who knows, now that online is very playable finally, it might become time to enhance the (online) franchise mode with things that can only be done when connected online...

The appeal of a card game like an Ultimate team or DD is to play with MLB players and legends. Not fake generated players, which is what I believed DD launched as in MLB 14. Add the fact that MLB14 was still unplayable online. Then I think SCEA used a lot of time to get the mode to something people would enjoy playing, MLB players, legends, and everything that was added last year. Baseball is the perfect game for a Card trading mode, and they have shown that the development from MLB14-16 has mainly been focused on DD.

And it makes sense from a business perspective. Once one pack is bought in DD it makes more then Franchise/RTTS. Add in all the new card types, and packs and enchancements and this mode is going to generate a lot of money for SCEA.

I can guarantee you that the statement in bold is simply incorrect... I've been in a couple CD events during that time span, and myself being fond of the DD as a way to play against human players online, I have interacted with the developers quite a bit about DD (and other stuff), to relay general feedback as a gamer myself and to relay concerns we frequently see in forums like this.

I can guarantee that DD wasn't the sole focus (well, in MLB 14 - 15 anyways), and I can also honestly tell you that the developers at SDS like the ones we get to see in Twitch streams often are not really in it just for business. Sure, business must always be one aspect, of course, but there are a lot of creative and passionate people at SDS whose concerns are very similar to ours.

Re: Battle Royal is draft Champs

Was fearing these would be single player modes. Thew whole appeal of DD to me is the mix of playing online games and building a franchise. My hope was that only one of these modes would be for single player. My guess was conquest as a single player season mode for DD giving people who wanted a create a team mode what they want.

I had hoped that maybe battle royale, due to the name, would be similar to Hearthstone in that you draft a team and then play people with better prizes as you advance. Maybe you have to put up tickets to get into the mode. Maybe this is an online mode, but calling it a "single player, online tournament" makes it sound like a leaderboard.

Both being single player I am a bit disappointed, but I'll probably at least check them out. But I'd guess 95% Of my time in DD is spend playing other humans.
