PES 2016's Rocky Start Just Now Finding Solid Ground

It has been quite the year for Konami's PES 2016. After turning some heads with PES 2015, PES 2016 received positive reviews and created a strong buzz among footy enthusiasts. With Konami releasing PES 2016 earlier than FIFA 16, many players flocked to PES 2016 as their first 2016 footy experience. Some were elated at the upgrades within PES 2016 while others felt the game was incomplete in its then-current state.

In this article I'll dive into how the game has held up post-release.

Even as a football enthousiast and Dutch guy, I prefer what NBA2K16 has to offer. PES16 is too shallow for me. I can play it for one game and then I am bored already. Nothing keeps me playing it at this moment.

I'm a huge fan of PES but it's been rough for me to enjoy the game this year. The game will probably get some newfound interest when the Euro2016 patch is available. But they're facing a huge amount of work to get backthe franchise back on its feet with PES 2017.

As much as I hate to say it, I think this series is dead. If not after PES 2016, definitely after PES 2017. From the horrible post release support to the give away of the Euro 2016 content next year after paying who knows what to secure the license from EA, I just can't see this series going much further.Konami should sell the rights of this game to a developer whose more willing and able to support it and take the franchise to new heights.

Konami really needs to expand its development team. I love PES, but I don't understand how obvious areas don't get attention. I've said this before and so have others: just because they don't have certain licenses doesn't mean they can't put in well made generic stadiums, a well done generic presentation package. Case in point, APF 2k8. If it wasn't for the gameplay, I'd be gone, but if these areas along with what was mentioned in the article aren't addressed in PES 2017, I won't be picking it up. I'll gladly just stay with 2016. Gameplay is always priority, but now it feels they're just using that to move attention away from these areas. Please prove my cynicism wrong Konami.

I really wanted to like this game but I can't justify it vs FIFA. I agree the import option this year is very poor and it's too much of a hassle to import logos/kits/etc... Hopefully next year they can make it super easy to import like they did last gen.

As stated above, Konami plays the 'it is the gameplay that counts' to often. What about a good user experience of the field? Implement a broadcast package with automatic highlights, make the menus slick and inteliigent, give us more unlockables like stadiums, boots, balls, legends, old kits. Besides the gameplay, the franchise lacks depts and motivation to continue playing. And thats what games expect nowadays. It is more then just good gameplay.

Re: PES 2016's Rocky Start Just Now Finding Solid Ground

Been streaming FIFA lately, back to my channel's roots. My record is great, I've won the title in Div 10, and 9 both on first try in my first 2 days owning the game, now in Div 8, about to win the title. The game is fun.

but STOP comparing it to PES. FIFA is like football on meth.

Fanboys said when FIFA released "They made pace not matter, defense is better" to compare it to PES's gameplay and defending. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The defense is poor, the pace stillllll matters, the only difference is they made the offense, shooting and touch poor when comparing to FIFA 15. Some of the touches in FIFA are so mind boggling horrible, that is the ONLY reason this game is more defensive. It has NOTHING to do with that actually playing defense is better, nothing, it has to do with when fast players use the right analog to flick the ball out front and run onto it, for some reason they knock the ball 30 yards out in front because their not pros? So if thats how you make defense better by sacrificing touch, then I guess. Because its almost like the game doesn't want you to be fast. I have no problem defending on FIFA, none. I'm winning 50% my matches 3-0, the others ones 2-0, maybe allowing a goal here in there, and it has nothing to do with that the defending is "better" from 15, because its not. Its still all about manipulation and reading your opponents next move.

Their is still PLENTY of team tackling. What is team tackling? When you are controlling a player and the AI on your own team is so moronic that he runs into you and players crumble with pitiful rag doll physics.

The Physicality in FIFA is poor. The fouls are soooooo soft, 90% of fouls in FUT are just two players running into each other. In PES i love the insanely realistic animations on the challenges. Not just players running into each other.

So PLEASE, stop comparing FIFA to PES as if its better. Because both games have amazing points, mainly PES being on the pitch, FIFA being off the pitch, or FIFA having the better online experience. Where FIFA has soft fouls, PES doesn't have as much fouls. Where FIFA lacks physicality, PES shines. Where PES has weaker goal keepers, FIFA has insanely good goal keepers. Its apples & oranges.

This screenshot I think sums up the difference between PES & FIFA.

I like both games, for different reasons. but in no way shape or form do I think FIFA is a better football sim. PES has the "Unmitigated Joy" to steal words from Steve. Specially offline, where PES really shines.
