This statement is very telling and actually may be spot on. My two favorite sports are Hockey and football and I find those are the two games I complain the most about. If your not a die hard fan and not noticing the little things missing or wrong the game would seem excellent.

This is a great write up and shows the other side. I think EA tries to find a balance to keep all happy and as a result misses things that only us long time hockey fans notice. I just wish EA would spend extra time on their difficulty settings and sliders like MLB the Show. You can make that game play like an arcade game, somewhere in between, or a true baseball sim. That game nails every aspect......then again I'm not a huge baseball fan so perhaps I'm proving my point.....Hmmmm

Re: NHL 16 Through the Eyes of a Noob

I'm playing NHL 16 as my first real hockey game in over 15 years, otherwise I'm in the exact same situation. If Madden has the wrong font for the yard markers, I will notice. If NBA 2K has "Knicks Arena" instead of MSG, I notice it.

But NHL? I don't really notice, and I have no idea what the "slot" is, but I'm just having a blast.

A few years ago I picked up EA Rugby (I forget what year honestly) for $5 and NONE of my friends knew what we were doing, so we all had a good time and no one took it seriously.

Same here (NBA, Soccer).

I think that's because I know so little about those sports I'm ignorant to what I should be angry about, haha.

good article,
only if you are a noob to hockey, the game is fun. you dont see anything wrong with that?
have you ever heard of the statement "ignorance is bliss". that is what you are describing.
question becomes, what happens when you become more knowledgeable about said sport?

so is the game a sim or is it more arcade?
I still play hockey games every once in a while.
NHL 14 and NHL2k10.

As a diehard hockey fan the game is near unplayable to me and the commentary is terrible. But I do know what you mean because I feel this way about the Fifa series, I never watch Soccer but I do love to play the games so authenticity/realism matters very little to me as long as it it is fun.

Completely off topic, but if you're not too fussed about authenticity, do give PES 2016 a try. I own both FIFA and PES titles for this year and PES plays fantastically.

I don't want to completely derail this thread but I've never been able to get into the PES games, I have tried a few over the years because i always hear they are better but I dont know just something about them I don't like.
