Madden: How To Bring Superstar Mode Back

Unless you haven’t picked up a recent copy of Madden Football, then you are well aware that EA has combined all of their “career” modes into one package under one heading titled Connected Franchise. You can choose to be an owner, a coach, or a player, and while each option is similar, each choice brings its own set of goals and choices. For now though, I want to focus purely on the single player’s career mode option. With the selection of this option, it allows the user to create an individual or pick an existing player, and play out a full 15 years of your career. While this mode should be full of opportunities to live the hectic and exciting life of an NFL player, it fails miserably in almost every way possible at doing so. I want to take a look at five different areas within the player career mode in which the Madden developers could add some much needed depth and realism, and give users a reason to actually explore this mode.

Do everything 2k does except with football and don't force your character to talk like you're from the hood.

Just put forth the effort and resources into this mode and people will play it. I am tired of the excuse that the game mode isn't that popular. Well you get what you put into it.

If Madden can just create a world of it's own in their Superstar mode it would be great. How it stands now it feels like a regular Franchise mode but Player Locked. If they go back to how they did NCAA's Superstar Mode where you have things to do in your PERSONAL LIFE.

Yea, they could copy straight from 2k but then where would we be able to compare the difference...? There should be some sort of a story but it should be totally dependent on your decisions on and off the field.

This! A game mode would be more popular if had actual effort. You'd think they'd improve a game mode rather than throw it away. Throwing it away to me pretty much says "We've done everything we could possibly do in this mode in terms of the standard of quality achievable but no one plays it". I'm pretty sure this mode is no where near today's standards lol I haven't liked Superstar mode since Madden 07 on PS2.

Well I'm going to be that guy.

Some of this stuff used to be in Madden superstar mode. One of the first times I went online for game help was to find out how to get the best 40 time I could (leaning at the end could make a big difference!).
I also remember getting correspondence from your #1 fan.

Actually looking back at it, didn't NCAA and Madden start the be a player mode?

A damn shame how they completely have abandoned it

Exactly in Madden 07/NCAA 07 on the PS2 I put 6 player through college and long Careers and extremely liked doing so. now I feel like EA took the easy way out and instead of taking the time to craft out each mode just lumped them all together. I know a perfect Football game is not possible but I just want them to try.

I've actually started writing a script for a Superstar or MyCareer mode in a football game out of boredom with the current player CFM. As much as I know it has zero chance of ever being used in an actual game, it strangely gives me some hope for the future of career modes in football games. It's gone downhill since the PS2/Original Xbox generation while the rest of the game has, in my opinion, reached new heights especially considering gameplay. A huge reason NBA2K and MLB The Show are considered to be on a different level is because of the attention given to My Career and RttS. I can only hope EA knows how much the game is lacking in comparison and is trying to fix it.
