Personally, I buy NBA2k for online play. Especially just straight play now online games. I play the other modes just to get better at using my team online, because I try to run plays and what not. Playing against the cpu is good for that. As far as that goes, it's impressive. It looks good, feels smooth and fluid. Meets expectations, maybe a tad beyond.
Online though... I don't know if anyone else gets this problem, but , especially in the first quarter, the game is just lagging and stuttering hard. Then it does a fast forward type of thing to catch back up to real time. I don't think it happens to BOTH players at the same time. I think sometimes on my end it lags and the other player's side is fine. Then the opponent side lags and I'm fine. I say this cause when I'm lagging, the opponent is executing with wide open JUMPERS which is half impossible to hit during that stuttering, next thing you know after it does it's "fast forward", I'm inbounding the ball... So I don't think they were lagging. Then other times, I see their player just running oddly in another direction but my game is currently running smooth. So they're lagging, I'm not.
It kind of ruins the game for ME cause I intend to play online. Especially playing with the Knicks who's "Tier 3", my team does a lot of stupid @#$% that you expect them not to do, especially in a simple looking situation. But I'm not complaining at all bout that. Just means I have to be a lot more crisp in my play. But when the game lags and screws up important possessions, it's hard to win against Tier 1s, i.e: GS, OKC, HOU that everybody plays with...oh yeah CLE.
I hope that it IS just me, which means something I can fix. But I'm hardwired, 50 mb download/upload measured at the line. Only couple devices hooked into a straight switch. Xbox network troubleshooter does not detect anything wrong with my connection in all it's tests... So couldn't be a configuration issue.
Otherwise, 2K is doing a great job making the game so simulated to the NBA, but I think just one development cycle, they need to just DOMINATE ONLINE GAMEPLAY. No need to add anymore game modes until that's solved.

That's been the most consistent complaint among reviewers. Which is surprising to me.

Re: NBA 2K16 Review (PS4/XB1)

  • Defenders get completely lost in transition on way too many plays.
  • The Pick N Roll is too poorly defended on too many plays
  • Too many times players in good position will not even attempt an offensive rebound.
  • Some bigs and a few smalls are too good at guarding on the perimeter
  • In transition on offensive some of the wings take way too long coming into the front court, messing up the secondary break.
  • CPU still has an inherent advantage on 50/50 balls.

Because of these things I can only give the game a "9.5"

I've been complaining about a few things, but as an offline player this is the best game, sports or otherwise, that I've ever played.

If they fix those things in a patch and don't break anything else. I would give the game a "9.9"(No sports game will get a 10) For what I'm looking for this is really as good as it gets.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.
