NBA 2K16 Player Ratings - Top 10 Point Guards (UPDATED)

Same could be said for Westbrook though. He would be ahead in all athletic categories for sure. Speed, vert, quickness, strength, steals, dunks, defense, hands, blocks, rebounds, etc.

Just makes me believe that Curry is really overrated in lots of areas or that shooting ratings are a huge weight in the system.

I would have a hard time seeing the opposite-- that the player with the most measurable impact on the game and considered a better player is rated less highly than their peers just because you can name some categories other players excel in. I for one am glad 2K appears to no longer be overrating athleticism in the OVRs.

Curry was the most impactful PG, so whatever he's doing should be giving him the highest OVR at the PG spot. And 2K no longer just rates by position, but player role type. There's no such thing as overrating efficient GOAT level shooting, especially in a position that has the least impact on defense, and when that does translate to actual historical impact.

Curry is likely ranked as an Offensive Superstar, where high shooting bumps the OVR, and for how much his shooting impacts the game, that seems completely appropriate. If the formula is correct, there would be no need to overrate him just to get his rating bumped.

There isn't a "Curry is steadily more efficient and would compliment KD better" attribute score in 2k.

It'll be interesting to see what the individual ratings are, but Russ is so good in so many areas, along with likely the best athletic attributes in the league, it's almost surprising he isn't the top guard based on that alone. Even though technically he probably isn't the best PG in the league.

You consider talk about shooting efficiency rambling? That's kind of a head scratcher.

Offensive efficiency is sort of central to any objective basketball analysis. I mean it's simply points on the board vs. possessions or shot attempts taken. Factor in freethrows if you want to get fancy. Essentially dude takes a lot of shots and misses a lot, while another player scores more with the same attempts.

It's a lot simpler, objective, and less "rambling" than asserting that a player is better than another with vague hand waving, especially when the numbers don't show it.

The "efficiency" stat for Curry is his shooting numbers and ratings. The efficiency for Curry's playmaking is in his passing rating. Curry is a better player/compliment to Durant than Westbrook because of his IQ, skills, and tendencies-- he needs less possessions and shots to score leaving more shots for KD which Curry will gladly manufacture.

You're right that there's no rating for fit, but there are tendencies. Unfortunately tendencies don't affect ratings but it would certainly be interesting if tendencies towards or against a player's strength or weaknesses affected their OVRs (like someone who shoots in volume inefficiently).

At any rate I was responding to the assertion that considering Curry as a better player than Westbrook doesn't factor in context if their positions were switched, when there's plenty of reason to believe Curry would fit Durant even better, (and Westbrook would be worse for GSW). No, that's not a 2K stat, but there are plenty of things Curry does that makes him so that are modeled by 2K.

Ratings are subject to change.

Ratings threads are prone to arguments.

I wonder if 2K releases ratings, gets the popcorn and then sits back entertained....

It's not that great-- it's now a bit above average to good in a team concept-- but it's better and more intelligent than Westbrook's or Irving's.

With a much worse turnover ratio, which is pretty much the standard for judging playmaking ability. Just because Westbrook gets a lot of raw assists doesn't make him a better playmaker either.

When this game drops, I'm going to take a close look at Kyrie Irving compared to Damian Lillard. Damian had equal if not better stats in every category except shooting percentages, is probably an equal defender to Kyrie, and might be a better athlete. Kyrie has the handle advantage, but that's about it.

Rubio at 77. I think he should be an 80, but I'm not going to scoff at it. I understand his shortcomings as a scorer, but he is still elite at passing, court vision, very good rebounder and team defender, good free throw shooter.

Oh well. I'll just bump him up a bit.

Yikes. Is that official? Rubio's shooting is horrid but he's a good defender in addition to his passing. I suppose that's kind of interesting that it matches the fact that offensively inept PGs really hurt you in the league.
