Game looks decent and we can probably get a few months of solid gameplay out of it but the animations IMO are still light years behind every other sports game on Next Gen at this point.

Yeah, these are all constant problems. That video looks 'okay', but you have basketball competition way beyond okay. They need to be 'great' to succeed.

The animations look really poor...and I just do not understand why. FIFA 16 looks amazing and has some of the best animations ever...so, why does this game look so outdated?

Madden is great this year..FIFA demo is great....

Yet RM Golf is really weak and LIVE looks a generation behind still. I don't really get how the same company can be so good at some sports games / so poor at others.

I know budgets etc play a part...but surely the FIFA guys could at least help the LIVE team to get basic animations right etc?

I'll play along with the incomplete build excuse that we get every year...

So come the retail version we aren't going to see smooth post players like Duncan or Z-Bo use any of them goofy wacky looking shots inside that never seem to go away regardless what build it's been in year past right?

EXCELLENT WORK EA

I mean, In a year EA has made great improvements. If this were a marathon, we would have 2 k still ahead, but EA is coming from behind with a better race pace. Within three years and will surpass 2 k as Fifa did with PES when PES seemed unbeatable.
The proportions between the court and players in Nba Live are excellent as stadium graphics etc. Careful 2 k, Nba Live is coming. And great racing.

we got to wait for SYNERGY to upload in order to see that stuff man

But in all seriousness I'm convinced the guys at EA working on Live just seem to have their minds made up this is how NBA basketball players move and react

There's just no way around it when you consider these things have been consistent for years and if a patch fixes it then why hasn't a patch been released every year to take away those god awful animations after release of the game....

How many fans are going to actually play the demo and say it's cool I'll wait til the patch drops to fix those goofy animations and seeing right now?

Seems like to me the DEMO is your opportunity to sale the game and win back as many fans as possible why show them a game that is yet again flooded with horrible animations

A lot of ps2 animations still present. Especially inside the paint. Really no excuse

Here's my take: The staff at FIFA has an eye for what realistic movements should at least look like. No real wonky animations that sticks out. They are all under the EA umbrella. Considering FIFA is already done, either bring in the FIFA animation engine or at least have several FIFA staff members on board right now to start working on Live17, especially the motion capture area with regards to driving the paint and interior physicality including passing motions and dribbling mechanics.

Here's the thing. There are plenty of good motion captured by this current Live team, but wonky animations (as seen in that Jeff Teague driving the paint animation, and other interior post play animation, etc.) really does take away from the experience. Don't try to polish wonky animations. Don't even keep them in the library. Just delete them. Visually it could have been a really solid product had someone had the gulls to simply say we need to get rid of these 500 or 1000 (or whatever number it truly is) wonky animations.

We are looking to get our footing back into the virtual basketball court. We are going to be nitpicked apart. Wonky animations is ammo for critics. We need real athletes to do motion capture. "Not my closet friend who plays hoops, thinks he got game but truly doesn't otherwise he would be playing ball professionally. Bring me someone who's a real basketball player. Also don't bring me a street ball either. We need to make sure we get the NBA game down first. Get me several NBA athletes."

The question: $60 to support the underdog (even though the company EA is an "overdog") to keep pressure on the competition or not? To buy both games or not. Because I do see promise in Live16. Next week: Demo Live16. We'll see.

Re: Rising star gameplay

I was and still am a fan of 15, it was surprisingly fun and had lots of impressive stuff in it. Stuff that helped outweigh the negatives and I always gave some of those negatives a bit of a free pass because of the long road the game had to get back on track.

But three years on now and some of those negatives simply don't cut it.

While I think there are a lot of superb animations, I have to agree with Playmakers and others that there are just way, way too many goofy one's.

Some of them look as bad as the hand drawn animations from Konami's old (non mo-capped) In The Zone series. Yes, the 19 year old game...

You would think 1. You'd start the process by hiring pro players to come in and mo-cap your moves and 2. Have someone (oh I don't know, like us on these forums with half a brain for basketball related knowledge) overlook how those moves are loaded into your engine.

Because too many of those animations are just disgraceful. They don't resemble basketball moves and insult the actual athletes they are meant to portray.

It is such a pity to see, it really is. As I said, the game has some great moves and some impressive stuff going for it, but it's let down by these embarrassing animations.
