Re: NBA 2K16 Hands-On Preview

I'm not sure you can call Rudy Gay inconsistent ever since he's landed in Sacramento.

I didn't know shooting over 45% FG while averaging 20, 5, and 3 while playing respectable on ball and post defense over 120 games was inconsistent.

I'm referring to his entire career, not just Sacramento. For the vast majority of it he hasn't played to his full potential. A lot of players don't, not really a knock, some players just aren't meant to be stars giving their talent level. Lamar Odom was another player that could do almost anything and had the physical gifts meant for basketball, but just never was consistently good enough to become a star.

This is true, I believe even if you preorder the hard copy, you get it early as well.

Rudy Gay struggled for a grand total of 2 seasons, before everyone started writing him off as a bum, when all he needed was a change of scenery (which revitalized him for the better).

I'm still not sure how averaging 19 and 6 on 46% FG for 4 straight seasons is considered inconsistent but okay.

I mean, sure he never became the elite defender we all thought he could be (he's merely good) but that doesn't mean he was inconsistent in terms of his scoring talent. His ballhandling was always going to hold him back in that aspect. Just as Freethrow shooting always held Lamar Odom back in his scoring. If Lamar shot 80% from the line like Rudy he would have been averaging 20, 10, and 5 during his prime.

Acting like 19 and 6 on a team that moves as glacial as Memphis with no outside shooting and the lanes always being clogged is bad.

I mean, other than the obligatory Paul George, Kawhi, Lebron, KD, and Melo who would you take over Rudy that's not at least debatable?

I just don't get it with this potential thing. I really don't. It's not as if everyone had skyhigh supposed to be the best SF in the game expectations for Rudy, so I don't get it.

It's not just about points and it's not about having skyhigh expectations dude. No one had those expectations for Kawhii, PG13, or LO either. I've watched all these players since their rookie seasons and Gay is inconsistent in the way he impacts the game. Yes 19 and 6 on 46% shooting is decent, but game to game with his talent level, he isn't nowhere near the player his gifts could've allowed him to be. THAT is the difference between him and someone like a Paul George/Kawhii/etc. (that's what separates all stars from everyone else, CONSISTENCY. Dominating on a nightly basis is damn hard to do). He has damn near the same skill set but he doesn't impact the game as consistently as those players do, that's all I'm saying. Sometimes it's mental like it was with Lamar, he just wasn't aggressive by nature. Some just aren't cut out to be the main guy or even the 2nd guy on a team. Some guys are just really good playing a role, Andre Iguodala is a perfect example of that. He can do damn near anything on the court and is a freak athlete but the dude is just best as a utility player.

Anyways back to my original point, Rudy is a cheesy player in 2k because he has the attributes that makes him play like a superstar if you use him like one in game.
