Re: NBA 2K16 Gameplay Blog with Da_Czar

Between the defensive blog and this, it seems like the AI has hardcoded intelligence and awareness that in the past might require a higher difficulty setting and endless slider adjustments. Having this baseline AI intelligence is HUGE, and slider tweaks can be focused on achieving perfect balance on top of this foundation, as opposed to trying to force the AI to go beyond it's inherent restrictions in coding. As a person who plays primarily offline, this is really beautiful to hear.

I love everything here, specifically how that one on one module is looking. To acheive any type of one on one intelligence from the CPU, it required going deep into player tendencies. But even then, the results felt more randomized than intentional. Dynamic spacing and AI Freelance Execution is huge as well.

I only have one concern after having read these blogs. It is a wonderful thing that shooting tweaks, playbook additions and offensive/defensive scheme updates can occur with roster updates, but the part that sucks about that is for people who deeply edit rosters such as myself, there will be a constant need to start over with the newest update. Also, it would suck to be running a franchise, be like 20 games in and then suddenly a significant roster update drops that cosists of the current schemes different teams are running. I wish there was some way to keep portions of updated rosters accessible across all modes, and some sort of quick way to import edits across rosters.

Great stuff Czar! I've been watching basketball since the late 80's & consider my very knowledgeable about the NBA. You know a game is great when it can teach you basketball fundamentals while you play it. The improvements you guys added to this game & the level of detail & depth is incredible! I find myself still learning aspects of the NBA & expanding on basketball terminology just from playing 2K. You guys have taken that to another level this year! Kudos to 2K for giving us a true simulation experience! I can't wait to dive into 2K16!

Czar can you clarify for me how the "1-4" freelance is different from Flex? You classified 1-4 as closest to Sloan's offense, but the flex was what Sloan ran in Utah.

Is 1-4 what Stockton/Malone ran whiles Flex is the D-will/booze/ak era?

Wow, so many changes on both offense and defense in one dev cycle. Impressive. High hopes most of it works as intended.

A different sort of observation - the game play footage (not the practice footage) had only court sounds. No crowd or commentary. What are you hiding, 2k Sports? (Please don't be Bill Walton, please don't be Bill Walton... )

Re: NBA 2K16 Gameplay Blog with Da_Czar

" Houston- This freelance was born out of sheer creativity while scouting the Rockets in the playoffs. If you recall, without their starting point guard the ball was constantly in James Harden’s hands.

This freelance replicates that and forces users to guard Harden 1 on 1 no matter where he receives the ball. You have isolation or pick and roll options in any location. If for any reason Harden does not have the ball, simply stand still for a count of two and he will pop out to receive it."

.... As a Rockets fan this is quite possibly the most hilarious troll move ever

Does a player need to have the "play initiator" trait to bring the ball up if a play is designed for him to be the one to initiate a play or does "play initiator" not matter anymore?
It's not a factor anymore in which pnr plays a player can run.
