Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Available Today - Post Your Impressions Here

Played for the first time last night, Did TPC Sawgrass during the evening on default mode, I havent played a TW game in a few years, first round I shot -11, missed a few putts from being rusty, I then switch to tour mode and at TPC Boston I shot -2.

One thing I hate is that they took away the "math" of the game, you just have to set the aim marker and shoot, I miss being stuck in between clubs having to nail a 75% shot.

The graphics are quite good, the players themselves are lacking but the courses are beautiful.

I started career mode and the golfer creator is a joke. I think ps2 versions had more options.

Overall I would give it a 6.5/10, this game has a lot of potential, bring on more golfer customization (no beards? really?) and a boat load of hopefully FREE courses, it would be straight up ROBBERY to ship the game with 8 courses and charge for DLC right away, I would be happy with a free 4 course pack tbh

So, to me, the zoom is like my detailed yardage book.
This is how I feel as well and turned me off to a lot of the better tours in TGC because they all had it turned off.

I get the thought but even in real life if I have a blind shot or need to get a look at the green I can drive the cart up to get a better look at what I need to (essentially zooming in).

And the pro's have their caddies there to do exactly what we are doing by zooming in in the game. I have almost all other crutches off (green grid only is still on).

Although I generally agree with both yourself and the poster you quoted, it is one of the easier ways to raise the difficulty of the game without turning the green grid off, which I don't think is very realistic. A tour pro essentially sees these beads in his mind when he's reading a green, so I'm not going to limit myself with reading putts because these systems STILL aren't powerful enough to convey elevation properly without the green grid.

But the thinking behind the zoom is absolutely on the money, the pros have yardages and "zoom" in their own way. Now, if I could move the camera in and around on the hole overview, that would be a nice compromise.

I agree with the two previous posters, I use the green beads because of the same reason you guys mentioned above. It's the equivalent of what the pros and their caddies are doing.

On TW 14 I turned the beads off and used the percentages of below feet, above feet, and uphill or downhill and that seemed to work out pretty realistically for me as well.

I am a big fan of no zoom as I like to use the "yardage book" just like the pros do and I do get an elevated look downrange to judge my aim from where I am hitting the shot which is what the Pros do as well.....I feel that the zoom makes the game too easy for me personally, but I do get that others feel differently and respect that as we all don't play the game exactly the same way....

I compensate the difference by using zoom for nothing but getting a closer view at the green. I still aim from the view from the golfer but with an idea of the green I'm hitting into.

That is a compromise I was willing to make with myself though like you, I respect the different opinion on the matter all together.

Elevations too?! Gotta have to look out again.

Did you guys change the standard clubs in your bag?! I just go with the standard settings. Any tips on swapping clubs here and there?!

I just changed the loft of my driver to 10.0° until my power gets high enough, then I use an 8.5° driver.
