I think you just gotta make sure your arrow points towards the card you want to challenge. So if the card you want to challenge is above you, use an up arrow. If it's to the right, use a right arrow. Seems to basically work that way, though it seems to screw you pretty good on category selection.

How? I won 3 of my bouts and still haven't uncovered anything...

I won bouts and didn't uncover pieces either. It also seems to give me the worst cards from my deck every single time. I don't think I've seen either of my survivor cards any bout yet, and never my maxxed Leg Fusion.

Agree on this, the card selection is suspiciously bad, as is the stat selection. If it's this difficult on the first tier, the third tier will be damn near impossible.
