This mode doesn't kill the sim factor of this game any more than the crib did in NFL 2K, Blacktop in NBA 2K or the Party Mode in the NHL 2K series. I think people are so starved for info, we're living on the extremes of rationality.

the 2k crib was an answer to Madden cards which were a rough precursor to MUT... the whole thing was tied to your career in a way and it didn't present the game in a fantastical manner that didn't make sense.

Blacktop in 2k was a weird direction but it was a DLC after the game not a part of the game. meaning they focused on the core parts of the game and then afterwards went to work on finishing the DLC.

this, while just a part of the whole, is part of the game. meaning $ and time were spent on a fantastical part of the game rather than focusing on the core parts. as a DLC at least it could be spun that "we wanted to add to the overall experience with a fantasy style fun golf mode"... instead this is shown before we even really understand or have been fully introduced to what the core part of the game is. EA is still busy informing everyone of which golfers are going to be in the game rather than what the whole RPG-esque aspect of the career mode really entails.

of course a user doesn't have to play the mode, seeing as how they invested enough to time to create a full course with over 150 events and minigames... seems like a lot just to say this isn't a big part of the game.

Cribs you played celebrities...trying to hit certain challenges while you're at it to unlock things for your crib. Regardless of what it was an answer to, it was resources directed away from the core game which ended up being considered one of the best football games ever.

Blacktop mode, in the first few years of last gen, was not DLC, rather part of the main game including a slam dunk contest and "not sim" game modes. Didn't take away from the game even though resources were poured into it.

My point is, this is a game mode for a casual audience. I'm not going to play it and I doubt many of you are. So why the butt hurt reactions? I hate the marketing strategy as much as anyone. I want to see gameplay videos, and some Career mode impressions etc. But that doesn't mean that on Tour difficulty, this won't be a game worthwhile to play.

They tried to make a more sim-oriented golf experience with TW 13 and especially 14....and sales flopped. Either we accept the fact these modes will exist along with a sim experience as well and hope sales pick up, or we don't get any golf game. If this genre were lucrative, 2K or some other developer than EA would have already taken a stab at it. It's EA or bust, at least on consoles, when it comes to a PGA title.

This game mode has no bearing on my potential enjoyment of this game.

I'm trying to pretend I didn't see that video.

That felt like "Rainbow Six Recon: Golf Attack"

The game loses sales every year not because of the sim factor, it's because the game uses the same stale and lifeless presentation and career modes every year. It's a game that uses the model of a decade old sports game of drawing in the gamer.

Most sports games evolve every year where you feel more and more immersed in it because they make it look and sound more authentic with enhanced presentation and franchise modes.

If you really expect the sales to rebound because it's slanting toward an arcade experience then you may be in for a suprise. Until they make a game that provides an involving and authentic PGA experience that makes you want to keep playing then the series will continue to spin it's wheels and totally misread the market.

I hope the only reason they chose to show that video was to show off the lighting effects on the new consoles. Usually when a company takes a long time to develop a game and then do not show the game off is because there ain't much to show off. Why not launch the damn game the week of the US Open?

I agree; I think it's EA grossly mis-reading the market. I mean, by this logic, Madden football should be "NFL Blitz" by now. They focus on making their other sports games as close to real-life as possible (ostensibly, anyway...), yet when it comes to golf, it's completely the opposite. This line of thinking makes no sense to me at all.

FIFA 16 featuring: Stadiums on the moon! (oh, by the way, the San Siro, Camp Nou, and Wembly aren't in the game, and the Bundesliga is paid DLC).

NHL 16 featuring: 3-on-3 street hockey mode with your house's garage door as the goal! (playing through the complete Stanley Cup playoffs requires paid DLC)

Madden 16 featuring: .....nah, too easy at this point...

TL;DR version - no other sport's fans get treated to this level of disrespect by EA to their sport-of-choice.

That's what infuriates me. Golf is the the oldest sports video game on the market. I remember playing Links on my 386 computer and it was extremely popular, before Madden and everything else. If anything this type of game has the most mature demographic and should be treated like a serious sports sim more than any other sports game.

But for some reason as soon as EA got Tiger on the cover, they needed to dumb it down. They continually made it to cater to the lowest common denominator and it never evolved. Sure they went the sim route the last few versions which I applaud and thought was going in the right direction but the rest of the features needed to complement that was kept as shallow as possible. The game became a big contradiction. We'll try and make it as real as possible but in a lifeless environment. They went out of thier way to make it boring and they succeeded and lagging sales are proof. You have to liven it up but not this way especially when other sports games are way ahead of them in terms of immersion.
