Why has no one mentioned the new Directional Hitting mechanic? This seems interesting to me.

Because for me it was the reason I despised the MVP series and MLB 2K7, assuming it's the same thing (which is a poor thing to do). Aiming left and right to hit left and right is completely fine, and borderline more rewarding than the current system we have. Down for ground ball and up for fly ball leads to a lot of problems, especially when my natural inclination is to aim down on a low pitch and up on a high pitch, which would be an ill-advised practice in this sport. I have a massive post on this for which it could work ("chop" vs. "upper cut", but I have no idea where it is.

I just don't like it as a left stick guide for fly balls and ground balls. Some games touted swinging up to hit home runs, others made it so that almost no matter what it would always produce a fly ball, etc. I'm more for swinging in the proper zone and letting my timing/player's abilities dictate the rest. Like I said, push/pull with the left stick is fine. Heck, even aiming up to swing "more downward" and aiming down to swing "more upward" would be fine as to say that's what would produce the most line drives, an ideal hit type.

However, as I am decidedly speculating on what this would be based on years of playing games that have a feature called directional hitting, I would option not to use it, and stick with a somewhat clunky, though very serviceable, zone hitting method. As long as it stays in the game, I will be very satisfied no matter what this other feature is... and if it happens to better my situation, well then I will use it and thank SCEA for the new feature.

Though to bring this back full circle, this was ideally a gamebreaker for me when it came to MVP (though I did own 2005) and 2K7. Yes, one could choose not to use the stick at all... but that's just not how I play (ala "timing hitting" I suppose) and I feel like you're probably reducing your hit variety if you do that.

I'll go hunting for my old post on the matter of proper directional hitting.

I was kinda hoping it was a misnomer for cursor hitting to be honest. I've always wanted them to bring back cursor hitting as I feel it's the most realistic, physics-based representation of hitting in baseball.

Does more uniform slots count as a new gameplay feature? Is that something we're going to find out about when it's out?

Yeah that is awesome sound like something kind of like madden used to have and I wish ever sports game had a weekly rap up type show like this in franchise mode.

I was way underwhelmed with '14 so I'm still holding out hope that they took a few risks this year. Like some have said, I think the trailer was probably exclusively meant to show of Puig. This early on, there's no telling how close that kind of footage is to being what the final product looks like.

All in all, I'm in wait and see mode. I think The Show went from the best or one of he best sports titles to being lost somewhere in the middle, last year. I care less about the visuals and more about them upgrading presentation, giving us more gameplay variety, and continuing to add to an already solid Franchise Mode.

Only disappointing thing for me: any extra focus on Diamond Dynasty is too much, IMO.
