I honestly do not think that has ever been a consideration due to the size. This could be an interested idea to mess with.

Above the head of the ball possesor ala Pro Evolution Soccer might be a good idea...

I'd maintain to keep the names below. PES has the luxury of using a full color spectrum and can use opacities, tints and shades to mitigate the visual presence of the name indicator. With GH using a flat, 8-bit aesthetic, an additional indicator on the field would be all too distracting.

We messed with this a tiny bit and it is just too distracting. i think with the screen size being so small that this is a non-issue. Still on the ideas board though.
