New NBA Live 15 Screenshots From Visuals Trailer

I can't really see anything odd from the trailer tbh, but it will be interesting to see if EA has eliminated all the "rocket dunks" that have plagued the series for years, and up and through last year...

I think that's what some guys are referring to...

It's the entire animation that's off though, it's as if it was manually animated rather than motion captured. The joint rotation, the knee bend and way it was slammed down not only looked very weird and stiff, but wasn't able to capture the ferociousness and power of a Blake Griffin dunk (in my opinion).

Its just the same motion cap tech live has used for years

I have looked at the Live 15 Griffin dunk vs. several real Griffin dunks. I think I know what's throwing some people off. It's that he's not high enough when he finishes. If you look virtual Blake takes off just outside of the paint and this is why he barely finishes a dunk we've all seen him do a hundred times. Usually real blake is about a foot into the paint. If this is truly why the Griffin dunk looks off this is potentially a good thing that Live factors in distance into the end results of a dunk attempt. Although it appears he still should be higher on the attempt.

edit: Having watch both more. I see what you mean about the knee bending it seems much more excessive/exaggerated to almost all Griffin dunks IRL. I am having a hard time finding a highlight of Griffin taking an identical angle and launch point as a quality reference point. All the other dunks in Live 15 trailer are useless because they don't show any knee bending.

I'm specifically speaking on the Wiggins and Lillard dunks.. The Cousins and Dwight dunk looked nice to me, though the cousins dunk was just a standing uncontested dunk. The way he hung on the rim was nice!

The only problem I have with the Blake dunk is he don't have his explosiveness to it.. It looks like Shaq trying to do a windmill, slow and robotic.. His hand doesn't bother me at all, players rarely grab the rim on a windmill, but it is odd he cocks his head way back to the side and is looking off into the stands/rafters.

I just watched it again and just noticed he started his jump outside the paint, like you said, which means he needed fair amount of forward and vertical momentum to be able reach to the rim with his hand. Now with that in mind, why would he go straight down right after the dunk since he barely touched the rim without any sort of discernible force? Realistically, his momentum would have continued and caused him to land near the baseline.

These are the sort of things that when you add them up, are off-putting and make the animations look weird and awkward.

Yeah there seems to be a problem with his momentum not only stopping but he even goes back a bit. Doesn't appear to be a game killer and all the physics on all the other dunks seem to be on par.

I'm not exactly sure, but I believe sean was explaining in the podcast what they did to eliminate rocket dunking.
