Re: NHL 15 Available Now For EA Access Subscribers, Post Your Impressions

Here are my high level impressions that I posted in another forum as well.....

Got a chance to play a few games last night and at this point not going to be a purchase for me. From an actual gameplay perspective, really feels the same to me as prior versions which was my first impression when I tried the limited demo. Presentation might be a little different, but from a gameplay perspective if someone asked me which version was 14 or 15, not sure I could tell you which was which. If you like the core gameplay of past versions then I think you would enjoy it and should absolutely purchase it. For me I still pretty much can skate end to end and make those crease passes for goals, goalies are still spotty and random at times, and of course my number one immersion killer does not work any better, which are penalties. Played a handful of games and I think I saw one total penalty called and that was with all penalty sliders maxed, 10 minutes, and even in some games I put it on max aggression and hits. No way the combo of all those settings should only result in one penalty.

Maybe once this game hits the bargain bin (or if a miracle patch comes out) I'll pick it up just for some casual fun, but no way I can justify $60 for this game. I don't even care they removed all the game modes since I don't use them, but I really don't see any improvements in the actual gameplay to justify it. Seems to me they just minimally ported over to the new platform and that was it. Although not an arcade hockey game, my fix for hockey will be playing ActionPC hockey at this point.

Re: NHL 15 Available Now For EA Access Subscribers, Post Your Impressions

The more I give it a go the more I conclude the gameplay is no better than it has ever been and at times even feels worse. The skating on Xbox One to me is screwy and twitchy. Everything feels incredibly arcade and shallow. The CPU gets all the old advantages in play, suction pins to the boards, magnetic pucks, untouchability etc. The visuals are slightly better but not leaps and bound better and after playing for a while the game looks like it always has.

The talked up vision cones and ai response to situations is smoke and mirrors stuff to me.

Menus have a bizarre layout and navigating them is like playing a mini game more suited to Deus Ex.

Really, really unimpressive product. For me, 15 on next gen is one of the worst entries ever in the history of the series. With the little we have been given it doesn't do anywhere near enough to be considered worthy of lots of my attention over the course of the coming year. An absolute no purchase for me.

With the work Shogunofharlem and others, plus Revamped and Cycloniac with the music packs, I will hold onto 14 and will look to get a used copy for the 360 as I prefer that controller for this series on old gen over ps3.

Just had a game with zero penalties with all the penalty sliders maxed.

Poke checking and body checking are out of control over powered, still can't do anything to a player when he is dekeing, and still getting deked out by defensive d-men. Same stuff different year.

Can you play on hardcore level if you max out CPU penalties and adjust the ai in any way? Switches to custom everytime I edit something. Then if I try to go back to hardcore it cancels the changed I made to the AI.

Hardcore is a set of preset sliders, once you change anything it goes to custom. Last gen had another setting called cpu aid that you could also change, but I haven't found that yet.

Anyone else play with pass assist 0 and feel like there is still an assist? It feels different to me now than it did in last gen
