Re: NHL 15 Available Now For EA Access Subscribers, Post Your Impressions

Can anyone comment on this demo review? Specifically this opinion:

Quote:
CPU AI still has that “godly PP mode” feel where even the fourth liners are skating at 90 degree cuts, accelerating and braking in millisecond timing, and would make a zombie baby made from the genes of Denis Savard, Jagr, and Ovechkin look like a grampa with leprosy.
EA seems to have a poor history with legacy issues seeping into one version to the next.
I was really hoping that the AI would get a complete overhaul with NHL15 - especially now that the development team isn't being hampered by inferior hardware.

EDIT: I should add that this is only one man's opinion and it's based off the demo.
I'd love to hear what others, who have the early access, retail version, have to say.

Obviously theres a ton of flak being fired at this game for the XB1/PS4 generation due to all the missing content and such.

I have a real question about HUT for anyone who's playing it on EA early access..

I have a couple injured players that aren't healing when being taken out of the lineup. I can't figure out how to heal them without using consumable cards.

Anyone else experiencing this?

You have to put them on the bench, not remove them from your "active roster".

Re: NHL 15 Available Now For EA Access Subscribers, Post Your Impressions

I played 3 games last night, even though I was really bitter about how much they've left out of the game, and I can say I actually enjoyed it. It was fun to play. It feels alot like 14, but it feels different at the same time. Referring specifically to the skating and such.

That being said, the AI still has it's invicible momments that IMO have plagued this game for a long time. There's times where no matter what you do, theyre invincible, they are destined to score, they wont give up the puck, you can check them... and your player does a great job with a nice new checking animation, but the AI player is invincible because he instantly jumps into his own animation of passing the puck. I've seen instances where I'm winding up for a slap shot, and I can be checked mid shot, or mid pass, but the AI, you just go into a checking animation, and bounce off of the player, or check the air beside him as he slides by, making a shot or a pass.

That being said too... theres nothing that bothers me more than the AI's dump and chase game, because its as if their players charging after the puck are at least 5 times faster than mine , and again they get into the corner ahead of you, you can't pin them against the boards or hit them, because they're instantly into a passing animation and they pull off a pass to a teammate that is physically impossible, because they dont even turn around, the puck just flies away it seems.

Luckily it doesn't always happen, but the times it does, its maddening to watch.

When the invicible AI takes over though, especially when they get down a few goals, I found msyelf last night feeling it start to happen, and I just throw the controller down and watch and wait for them to finish their ridiculous passing spree until they burry it in my net.

Now, I don;t want to make it sound all bad, but those things have bothered me about the game for a long time. I'm not one to mess with sliders, I just dont have time, so maybe some of it can be fixed, but I've had some really fun games too, the odd momment of gameplay drives me insane at times, but overall, it still seems like fun. I definately wouldn't call it a hockey sim by any means. It is a fun hockey game to play though. I guess it depends how serious, and nit picky you want to be about the game itself though. If I have fun, I can overlook some things, as long as they don't dominate the game, but there's no doubt times where the AI just decides you can't touch the puck, or them, and that is not good still. I'm ok with being beaten if I'm playing terrible, but I'm not ok with being beaten because the AI players can do things that I cant while skating with or without the puck.

Bottom line, I'm torn what to do. I'm usually an offline play now, or GM mode player, or offline versus play, so the lack of alot of modes doesn't bother me too much, but I do have a hard time justifying the full price point, for a game that's about a quarter of what it should be.

Excuse my ignorance here... but I can't exactly figure out how to do that.

Played three games with a buddy last night. Game literally controls no different than 14. The jerseys look weird to me especially on cut scenes and the play by play was boring. Can't believe they ditched all the game modes to make these presentation changes. I may pick this up when it's 20 bucks. It's not worth any more than that to me.

Can anyone comment on the 'cone vision' that Rammer mentioned from previous vidoe's?
I believe each player has a range of vision, with it's size of depending solely on the players attributes.
It's supposed to allow great players to have more options than those with poor vision, who are forced to make the simple play.

Has anyone noticed this from the CPU? Or even your own controlled players?

Marketing B.S. the CPU 4th line still move and dangle the puck like they are Datsuyk but now thanks to NHL15 physics, they pass the puck and shoot lasers. Make the games an one-timer fest with poor goalie.
