Re: NHL 15 Available Now For EA Access Subscribers, Post Your Impressions

OK, I just wanted to post my quick impressions before playing BAGM and going to class. Flat out, unless you play one of the excluded modes exclusively, you are doing yourself a serious disservice by not playing this game. The on-ice game is top notch.

- commentary is much better than the demo. Emrick gets excited when he should and calls out player names regularly. Ray Ferraro, seems to be on point on the replays.
- pucks seem to bounce around more and I'm seeing more "accidental" goals than in '14
- presentation is awesome. looks like a real game
- arenas look good
- crowd is beautiful and pretty responsive to the action (although somewhat subdued)
- atmosphere is great (proper goals horns, music during stoppages)
- player likenesses are better but still need work
- menus are better and more responsive

I can't post the ratings right but will try and take a screenshot later. Here's what I'll say, from cursory overview, the ratings are pretty terrible (as in a lack of seperation between good and bad players). I don't know if that is just aesthetic and the players actually differently than one another but once again my beloved Leafs are very overrated.

Santorelli - 84OVR (Top 9 potential)
Bozak - 87 OVR (Elite potential)
Reimer 85, Bernier 86, most goalies within the 85-90 range.

Like what mode? So far in what I read in this thread, not much improvement in BaGM and YES removing the edit player is STUPID because its part of BaGM especially if you trade someone, you dont want them to carry their previous team's color.

Gameplay? Look at what BigWill's write up (its entirety)....yea sure he's "hardcore" but tell me if that "offer tons of value for your dollar"?

-They still don't know, or let you assign, who to take the face-offs when it is 4-4. I took the opening face-off of OT with Kunitz while Crosby lined up at LW. They won the face-off and came down and nearly scored.

-All of their goals were a result of no help from my backside D covering their man properly. They refuse to get in between of them, the puck, and the net. I often use the strong/puck side man to go and try and poke the puck loose or square up to take away lanes. Or I will bring the lowest forward down, F3, and play the lanes properly, but this does me no good anymore because my CPU is braindead in helping me.

-I scored that stupid short side goal that has been in the game for years. The one where you skate with a right handed shot down the right side, off of the right post, the d man cuts off the center of the ice and the goalie should be squared up with you, but if you you flick the stick in like a wrist deke towards the middle of the goal and then pull back and roof it short side the goalie neglects to cover the top corner on the extreme short side. Should never be a goal! Not with the d man taking away any potential from me cutting across and no option to pass across. The goalie should respect that post every single time! Awful!
Thanks bigwill33 for your comments. I guess I'm almost made up mind on this game skipping AGAIN this year. The top two you mentioned really pisses me off....why o why EA? Penalties are part of NHL...I dont want a RW/LW in 4 on 4 to do faceoff. In the demo, I had a game where my D-man did the f/o in a 4-on-4 situation.

WHAT A WAST OF TIME REALLY....hoping EA improved in NG...but they regressed...removing more features/modes instead of improving them.

I am soooooo disappointed in the effort of these guys.....HOPEFULLY THE SALE of 15 WILL BE THEIR LOWEST EVER.....to either greatly improve and really listen to the consumers instead of pushing their idea of NHL down our throats or not produce any more NHL games. It is better not to have this game than giving a total hype and deliver an epic fail kinda product...at least that will not disappoint gamers who loves the game of hockey.

Yep. Pretty much.

The only thing I'll be upset about to be honest is that if we can't edit players that means we can't edit their jersey numbers. And as it seems EA has taken out features that previously existed in the game, I'm now worried that they removed the retired jersey numbers from the game. There's nothing that drives me more nuts than having some schmuck wear #4 on the Bruins or some jabroni wearing #9 on the Red Wings. Worst of all, if we can't change players' numbers as some rookie is wearing #21 or #9 on the Hawks, I'm done.

Call it a small issue if you want, but I am indeed a hardcore player. No doubt about it. If there's any doubt about that check the links in my signature.

Is this a joke... No game modes whatsoever... and now (most important of all) they have removed any and all customization options.... The future of gaming is all about customization and user-generated content.. What is going on with EA Sports. They are going in a backwards direction in my opinion.

Combined.. so they do seem low, but again it's only 1 game.

apparently...in GM mode, there is scouting, but no drafting....drafting is done automatically by the CPU. How is that for a total kick in the nads?

Come on EA...really? I am not buying this frigging turd. No friggin way.

No player edits AND no AHL? Eeeesshhh. I've been giving them the benefit of the doubt thus far as I don't really make use of the excluded modes (though I do feel for those that do), but this is a bit much.

I'm downloading now, but this isn't really the type of news I wanted to see while waiting.

EDIT: ^^ AND no drafting? Holy ****.
