I really enjoyed playing this demo. I love the new presentation. I won 3-0 in my first game and almost had a hat trick. There were two penalties called. One on each team. I like how the jerseys flap when players pick up speed. The ice also looked less glossy than in years past which is a good thing. I can't wait for the full game to be released. After not having Hockey on the PS4 last season I'm really glad it's on the PS4 even if it's only a demo at the moment.

I shouldn't have to handicap myself from playing real hockey to win at this game or score. I have already found nearly the same gameplay as there was in the prior versions of this game. There is never a need for me to dump and chase. I rarely need to cycle. I do these things because I want to, that is fun to me. Replicating a sim experience is my goal.

But the problem is that these are not rewarded like they would be in real life. And what is rewarded is carrying the puck in along the boards and spamming speed burst to get it in deep and then firing a one-time pass across the ice for the far wing.

Watch any video that is mostly what people do. They fly up and down the ice as fast as possible and try and try the same things over and over again. Why? Because it works too often! Why do any of the hard work and real style plays if you can just cheese the game all day the same ways that have been in for 5+ years?

This is especially a game killer online. You can set up the most beautiful plays in the world and make your opponent look silly, but the AI will compensate and cover for them and the goalie will dive across and make the miraculous save. Or, you can just skate over the line as fast as possible, one on two, and do a one-touch deke and gain the slot and curl your wrists over to send one top corner all day long. What do you think everyone is going to do?

The point is it should be on EA to have fixed these issues by now. They are not new. They are eyesores and ruin the immersive realism. I shouldn't be responsible for fixing their mistakes or handicapping my skills or IQ to try and get a realistic outcome.

If a baseball game had it so every time you bunted you got a base hit, or a football game had it where every toss right to the halfback was an automatic first down people wouldn't be too happy. That is what the NHL series is suffering from most, in my opinion.
Perfectly said. I am seeing so many idiots playing this game, just without a clue in the world, and they are being rewarded for not having any real knowledge or hockey sense. If you play smart, you should ANNIHILATE the other player.

Say what you will about Madden, but 9 times out of 10, no matter what kind of cheese the other guy is employing, if I am playing smart, I will win. Strategy and the chess match is what makes Madden fun. I can outsmart my opponent and be rewarded for it. There is absolutely nothing like that in the EA NHL series.

The edge jerseys move, but barely. It doesn't matter if players are skating fast or not. The old jerseys would flap like crazy because they were baggy and heavy. They specifically made edge jerseys so it eliminated the flapping and was more aerodynamic. The jersey flapping is completely overdone in this game, not to mention the jerseys in general just look bad, so IMO the flapping makes them look even worse. The goalie jersey flapping just needs to flat out go haha.

Honestly we should be seeing cloth ripples from the players movements and not flapping. It's just like any other uniform in the other sports video games. Depending on what part of their body is moving, the jersey should react to it.

Why are the cut scenes on the PS4 version so blurry? Is anyone else having this issue? I was just playing the XB1 version and it looked a lot cleaner. I never thought I'd say that, ever.
