The interaction between the shooter and the goalie is a key building block for a realistic hockey experience. At least it is to me. I can understand why EA wouldn't touch their goalies because it would drastically change the "feel" of their games, which are commercially and critically successful.

If anything, the goalies have regressed over the years, as the developers occasionally add some new desperation saves for them to use inappropriately.

I will buy it because it's the only hockey game available but I'll reserve the right to be grumpy about it. I was sort of expecting a new experience on my $500 console. *shrug*
I've asked this before, specifically to bwiggy but never actually get a response, what good is goalie animations if the AI is so ******** it couldn't stop a puck the size of a beach ball? NHL2k8 has to be one of the most over rated sports games in the history of sports games on a user level. The game was garbage, as was 2k10.

It's funny for how much complaining EA's AI gets, 2k gets a pass.

Well last time we made the jump between console generations, EA made a whole new game instead of just fixing "issues" with the old one. But then, they had strong competition at the time, so they pretty much had to.

If anything, 2K8 was underrated... It's got a big 71 on metacritic. I agree that NHL 2k10 was bad.

I probably swore at NHL 2K8 more than any other game, so I understand the premise of your argument. It's just that there are some things that it does better than EA even to this day and one of them is goaltending.

That's not entirely true, it does goaltender animations better, the AI itself is actually WORSE than EA's. I'll take stiff animations over completely brain dead AI any day of the week.

That's 2k's claim to fame with NHL2k good looking animations and a control scheme that is so clunky only the most dedicated will put the time in to master it while ignoring just how terrible the rest of the game is. There's a reason 2k never patched the PS3 version of 2k10, there's a reason they put no money into the franchise to even attempt to compete with EA, they had zero faith in the series and it showed.

It's a shame too because like Hank/Money99, I agree that Treyarch's NHL2k3 is still to this day one of the greatest playing hockey video games ever made, and not one studio has matched that yet.

Yea me too. I hardly ever play offline, especially NHL. But at the very least EA could use the competition. It could only benefit us, the end user (in theory).

Isn't it great that EA has a monopoly?

I'll take a game with flawless online play (most EA Games) over a more polished offline mode, any day.
