Re: EA Sports UFC Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (Xbox One, PS4)

So I downloaded and played like 9 matches while at home on my lunch break. (thank you Google Fiber for the 2 minute download!).

Because I'm such an MMA fan, I'm going to have a bittersweet time with the game. I love MMA so much that I still have to have this game when it comes out.. but also because I'm such an MMA fan, I can easily see where EA dropped the ball on this title.. especially compared to what THQ did with UFC 3. The game does play arcadey and while it's not exactly Tekken, its does feel like an old school arcade in the mall type of fighting game with an MMA skin put on it. Who knows, maybe there's sliders or something to make it not feel like EA Sports Street Fighter UFC 2014...

I will say this though, I always was suspect of EA taking the game over. Actually I think their older MMA game prior to the UFC license played more realistic at least with standup.

So I don't think most of us should be suprised. EA is NOT going to accurately represent any of the sports they push a game out around. Fifa and NHL are closer to the real thing than their other titles, though but I think its more because of how the real version of those games are. It's hard to make FIFA and NHL super arcadey. But once again, EA sports has cornered the market in a sports genre (yes I know there are other MMA games out there, but you know what I mean), and managed to water the game down (or be lazy and not develop) the things into a sports title to get it closer to the real thing. EA's UFC game doesn't come close to THQ efforts and I'm not making this a them vs. them post.. Im using the last UFC licensed game that happened to be made by someone else as a base and to put context and contrast around my comments.

Once again, with EA it's all about investing. They invested in the NFL so they could put out an unrealistic football game, and they did it again with UFC. I honestly don't think its a case of EA intentionally making their sports games arcadey.. I just think its EASIER for them to make a game that's more arcade like. It's like they are too lazy to put the man hours and dev talent into this game or any other sports title they have to get it close to simulating the real thing.. I get it.. that takes more work, more brains and more hours.. and the best devs out there don't want to work for EA Sports, and the board has to keep that profit margin at a certain level for the investors.

The game is not BAD.. it looks great, Im sure the final build will be what it was hyped up to be in the trailer and pre launch videos.. but the GAMEPLAY feels about 3 steps backwards from the last UFC title I purchased.. UFC3.

We were told it was only for next gen because ONLY NEXT GEN could pull off the things they are doing in this game.....other than graphics the game plays in most areas, WEAKER than last-gen/current-gen.

I was expecting the game to be rough but not be almost laughable. When I see things like spinning cartwheel kicks fighters doing things they have never or would never do in a fight it makes me so upset.

Developers and game companies need to stop cattering to the casual fan. What you do is alienate your actual audience. We should not sit here and have to turn a SERIOUS FIGHTING SPORT LIKE MMA into a Tekken/Street Fighter/Def Jam NY/WWE game where the object is to spam the special move until you win. Let them buy the game and sink or swim - if they can't spam their way to victory and do not ever buy the game, OH WELL!

EA is becoming a company I can't support when it comes to sport games. I would go out and buy every NCAA AND MADDEN every year at midnight, now I MAY go out and rent it off gamefly or redbox for a few days until I see that they are still making arcade games. I want pure simulation style games - they need to stop going out and showing huge lists of things they are doing and how the game and AI works without it actually being there. It is a slap in the face to the fan of the sport. Without the REAL UFC/MMA fans you would not be MAKING THIS GAME - but when you release a demo and instantly turn a game that was a must buy for majority and they see it is a casual game the fans realize that $60 would be better spent somewhere else than a game that will be on the shelf in less than a month.

Maybe our feelings and negative remarks are too hasty, but the "it's an early release, it's just a demo" is said way too often when it comes to an EA Sports game. Too many times the final product is almost identical to what we got in the demo.

Sure we may have had higher than achievable expectations, sure we may have put this game up there to extremes that could not be met, but if it comes out and is a game that still delivers in the SPORT OF MMA and not a Tekken/Street Fighter style then maybe fans will cut them some slack and want to continue to support this franchise, but sadly with this demo it is hard to want to do that.
Great post!

EA Sports does for sports games what most major record labels now do for hip hop. Turn it into something that the actual people who made the genre popular in the beginning no longer care to experience.

Re: EA Sports UFC Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (Xbox One, PS4)

My 'Ridiculous' Tekken comparisons are taken out of context. Or perhaps i just failed to put them in context...

its not Tekken in the way it looks or works, just that this game has as much depth as any of the 3D fighters i mentioned. The point I failed to make was while holding as much control depth as Tekken, its less accessible to newcommers

Noone cant get away with spamming Capoeria style kick in this game. THAT ascertation is ridiculous. And while this game does err toward the arcade side of the spectrum, I wouldn't say its as newbie friendly as one. At least when it comes to the ground game.

One another note, I do find it interesting that those with Ps4 and X1 are having an easier time with takedown defense on ps4. Im 32 so My reaction times are a bit slower than they used to but personally i find defending any kind of take down too hard on x1. Mind you, Im still trying to break years of UFC undisputed habits.

Re: EA Sports UFC Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (Xbox One, PS4)

Bad decision by EA on not letting us at least change the difficulty & giving us two more fighters to choose from in the demo smh. If the arcady aggressive CPU style is a product of the demo being on easy the it would be wise for EA to come out & say it. I'm sure the final version will be better (obviously with more options) but as of right now it's leaving a bad taste for a lot of people. I played 3 matches & stop playing because I dont want to get tainted by the stripped down demo. I'll wait for the retail version. Initial impression was the game is good but not as great as I hoped. It being only 30fps really stands out to me. The controls take some getting used to. I dont get the sense of power behind my punches that I would expect.* The ref not stepping in to stop the fight on knockouts is extremely awkward. Overall I'm sure it'll grow on me.

I apologize for my "Tekken" references and not being more accurate in what I mean by it. When I am saying this I am talking about how people can pop in a few quarters at the local arcade with say Gordo or any character really - and just spam the face buttons and pull of some moves and win a few games and think they are good at the game (sadly the difference is Tekken has more depth and a real pro will be able to demolish a button masher) however, in this game there does not feel like there is that much depth to it and it lacks that feel of a MMA SPORTS GAME and instead like a generic fighter that does not play like something that would really happen

Re: EA Sports UFC Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (Xbox One, PS4)

Played a couple matches today. My hype for this game is officially gone. The standup game is more along the lines of Taekwondo Toughman. Ridiculously aggressive AI, spinning kicks and capoeira kicks all over the place, guys easily taking multiple head kicks without batting an eye. The ground and clinch game are rather clunky. The submission system is creative and I do like what they are attempting to do.

I will wait for release and see what people's impressions are, but I'm not holding my breath. So disappointing because I was so pumped for this game.
