The skeletons are the animation rigs that animation data is mapped onto and dictate the basic proportions of the players. The models are polygonal meshes consisting of many vertices which are "skinned" to the skeletons. These models are what determine body types (i.e. fat, muscular, etc.). The models are then "painted" with multiple textures. Finally, there are various shaders that are applied to the vertices of the model to create further effects. Each player has multiple model "pieces". The accessories are another set of models that are then "attached" to the players that can have secondary animations and effects applied to them while interacting with the players

This explanation is a simplification of the process, but you get the idea...there are many, many factors that go into player appearance and animation.

All of these components were "touched" in some way for the PS4 version. We have many more plans...all in good time.
This just shows the insane complexity of just making models. And the process of animation. Hopefully it'll shed some light on other aspects of how complex it is to do other things in the game for all the people that say "why can't you do this?" or "why isn't this done?"

Woodweaver, In terms of scale, can you elaborate on the process of that? Is there base measurements for video game worlds to the real world? for example like a player in real life is 6 foot 7 inches is there a scale in the development process when creating a character that makes the character 6 foot 7 inches in the game world like a 1:1 scale ratio. or do you guys come up with your own scale and base proportions off of it?

To me the jump on the players, is similar to the madden jump.
Well....in my case.....I don't really care as to the opinion.
My point is more in if you are going to state something as FACT...at least post the correct thing.
You're doing it right here again in this post.
If you want people to respect your opinion....
-KNOW what you are talking about
-Convey correctly what you want to put forth.
It would go a long way towards people not "jumping all over you".

It's like saying..."Man... Ferrari's looks like ****.....are they ever going to change that body style?".... "Well...that's a Lamborghini..."....."Oh...same thing...you know what I mean".

Anyway....carry on.

It's all to scale based on real world measurements.

Thanks for the reply Woodweaver. I perhaps just need to make adjustments on my t.v. or the camera in the game to get the ratio the same as if I were watching game on t.v. Is the editable camera option still available in the game?

TV brand? Check if you have a full pixel option, enable it, then max out the horizontal and vertical size sliders in the game. You'll also get rid of the black border in screenshots too.

Of course, with the game being 1080p on PS4 you probably won't have to do anything.

Re: MLB 14 The Show PS4 Gameplay Videos (IGN)

I'm okay with what we've seen so far, but I'm not floored. I set myself up to be blown away, so in part, it's my own fault.

I do hope that by next year the game has taken some leaps forward. Marlon Byrd hitting a homerun has looked the same the last four or five years the game has been put out. A lot of the animations (like the OF catching the ball casually) look more robotic than they would if we were seeing something for the first time.

MLB: The Show is my favorite series, and this development team has had a tendency in the past to blow my mind and innovate, so that's what I've come to expect. Again, I haven't played the game and small samples of gameplay are not nearly enough to make judgement calls. It speaks to the consistency of the series that I have no doubt it will be the best sports game on the market even if it made 0 changes.

The game looks amazing, though. The lighting is spot on. There are some small things I hoped they fix in the future (OF still too small, infield dirt is way too light, player models still a little off), but when I'm complaining about stuff like that, it means we have a good game on our hands. There's nothing run with the core gameplay of this game, and it looks like that hasn't changed.
