Re: MLB 14 The Show Review (PS3)

I have been buying this game for 7 years and will definitely buy it again for PS4. But that's only because I have so much fun with the offline modes. Online has always been a joke. I live in Europe (Vienna, Austria) an online games have been simply unplayable since the beginning of the series. The first years you could have argued that this game is only produced for the American market and hence there are no servers for this game in Europe. But since MLB 12 this game has been available in European PSN stores. So I could expect a working online experience in Europe, too. But until today. Honestly, after 7 years of crappy online experiences its time for some review hate. Otherwise SCEA will never put more effort on this part of the game. So in my opinion the metacritic scores and the OS score is far too high! In 2014 we can expect a good online experience! And if a good part of the game modes just do not work properly a rating 8 out of 10 is just far too much love!

they need to reexamine the contracts, free agency and the trade deadline. players contract lengths and dollar amounts should mirror real-life. at this point the information is out there. computer teams at the deadline should be able to recognize they have a need at a particular position and be willing to trade A level prospects in a package for an mlb player. the computer teams should value the A level prospects higher.. i can offer a trade of 3 D / F prospects for three of their A prospects and the computer will happily accept with some "this looks like it will benefit both our teams" message in the box. really?? it's 2014 and we're next gen console now. let's get the computer AI next gen.

It's funny to see that this game is getting almost the exact same scores as Madden, but they couldn't be two different experiences. If you put them side by side, you'd have a tough time saying Madden does a better at simulating football than the Show does baseball. However, review scores lead you to believe they are about an equal experience.

There is a fun factor involved in the scoring as well, not only the aspects that make it the simulation that it is. Not to say The Show isn't fun, but I think people tend to see Madden as a very fun "party" or "online" game. I mean heck, I do believe that game has been plenty stable online for others, so that just might be a part of it all.

Let's wait until the PS4 review score, anyway. That's where they probably allocated most resources the past eighteen months.

Agreed. Despite not owning a PS4 yet, I am really looking forward to the community response to the game. It will probably help decide whether or not I buy one this year or wait until 15 comes out.

I will say this though... Baseball is a tough game to get "right". Even MLB and OOTP have their rough edges and modes or pieces that just never seem to work quite right. And let's be honest here, we can all be pretty picky when it comes to what we want in a sports game, which is as it should be if you are laying out $40 to $60 every spring.

Keep in mind that when these games are reviewed, it's not just how well the game simulates the sport, but all of the components that the game offers - like online .

Heck...it doesn't even have a ticker of other league games running when you are playing...you have to click on another screen to get out of town. You have to pause it and go to the BNN Network screen.

I love OOTP as much as the next guy, but I don't see how other than the news items....it has that much more immersion than The Show for the way you are describing.

In other ways...it blows the Show away(full minor leagues....COMPLETE ability to edit anything in franchise.....expansion...etc)...so there is that.

I use the real-time simulation, so yes I do see top performers as I go and scoring updates.
